Hi all. First post on the forum, have been lurking a bit though :) Heres my story. My and bf and I have been together nearly 7 yrs (from when I was 17, I''m nearly 24 now-he''s 4 yrs older), we''ve always known we''d get engaged, but only seriously started thinking about buying the ring etc in the last few months. I''ve still got 2 yrs left at uni, would like to get engaged after my exams in 2010, but I couldn''t help myself so started looking at rings a while ago!

I love Tiffany and had originally had my heart set on the Lucida. We live in the UK where all the Tiffany shops are in London (we live quite far away from there!) so the last time we went to London in June we had a quick look as we don''t go that often. I decided I wasn''t keen on the Lucida, but I LOVED the Tiffany classic setting. I tried a couple of ~0.7ct rings on, which I loved, but they were completely out of around our price range (~£5000/$8000, my bf''s budget was around £3000/$5000). There was no way we were gonna pay that much and in an ideal world I wanted 1ct

So I started looking on eBay to get an idea of prices, I don''t mind having a secondhand ring. Anyway, to cut a long story short, a Tiffany channel set round brilliant came up (I had seen this one too in the shop and liked the setting), unfortunately with a reserve which was above our budget. The ring didn''t meet the reserve so the seller went to sell to a jeweller. However she emailed me a while later to say she misinterpreted their offer and we could have the ring for £3100! We said yes, wary of dealing of the internet with no ebay protection though. She sent plenty of pics of all the paperwork etc, gave us her address and we spoke over the phone, so we went ahead, I am glad we did!

Anyway, I absolutely adore the ring. Its my dream ring really, but I never thought I''d get it. It''s 1.01 ct, I and VVS2. The band has 0.35ct G-H VS1 diamonds. Its so sparkly! I don''t have the other details (all at my bf''s), but I checked and the HCA score was 1.4. I''m trying to attach pics, but its being funny I''ll try later!

The ring is too big though

I think its a size 6, its never been altered. We''re not going to London till November so I have a long wait! We would like to get engaged a bit sooner now we have the ring, but my brother is getting married next summer so I don''t think we should do it till after. I''m going to have to be very patient, I''ll be waiting around a year I think!

hope this works

I sometimes browse at Tiffany rings on ebay to entertain myself.

I think I saw this one on there not too long ago. Congratulations on the purchase!!! It's beautiful!

Now that you have the ring but are still waiting a while, you should join us in our "Tiffany LIW discussion" thread (link here)

It''s lovely!
Patience is a virtue.

(Easy for ME to say... I know you just can''t wait.)

It''s beautiful! I don''t know how you''ll be able to wait until November to wear that beauty! I still haven''t been able to bring myself to take mine in to be sized. LOL I don''t want it to leave my finger! I''ll have to do it soon though because when my fingers are cold it could just slip right off!

Lovely ring!!! Congrats on an awesome purchase!

Beautiful!! Congrats!

Where in the UK are you? I''m in the UK too. I''ve been to Tiffany''s in Bond Street just to drool... :)

Thank you all for the kind comments!

Its gonna be hard waiting, its hard to see exactly how it''ll look on my hand because the band is so big! As soon as I put it on, it falls sideways! I had to stuff some tissue below the band to keep it in place to take pictures!!!!

Tiffany said it''ll take about 4 weeks to get everything done, I need it resized and polished and we also need a new insurance valuation certificate. But then I don''t know when we''ll be down in London again after November, so it could be into the new year! I''m back at uni next week and have big exams this year so I suppose that will be a good distraction away from the ring.

I''m in the (very rainy) north west of England. I haven''t been to Tiffany Bond Street

We had to go to Selfridges as it was quite late in the evening and the others had closed

Yes, definitely try the Bond Street one. The second floor is amazing!

Funny, I grew up in the northwest and loved it, although I don''t live there anymore. It rains just as much down south though!

So gorgeous - congrats!

PK, what a great story and a divine ring! That would be my dream ring too

You were incredibly lucky. Like the others, I too hope you don''t have to wait until after next summer to wear it. Btw, you must have really tiny fingers if that''s a US size 6, plus the 1ct looks huge on you! Anyway, at least you know you will be getting engaged to a great man with a lovely ring in the near future, and exams to keep your mind off it until then!

I am in London; you will love the Bond St jewellery stores once you come over

It''s gorgeous! What a great ebay find! Congrats on a stunning ring and your engagement/pending engagement!

dinamit - I think it is a size 6? Is that the standard Tiffany size? It has never been altered. It seems the same size as the ones I tried on in the shop (they were too big too).

Does anyone know a good way of measuring ring size? I tried one way but it came out as a size 7.5 ??!!

I''ve been meaning to take some more photos, but the ring is at my bf''s and its either too dark (I wanted to try in natural light) or I forget my camera!

I''m going to London in 2 months, can''t wait to go to Bond Street
