After I clean my ring I give it a few pump then dip my stone in 99 percent Isopropyl alcohol for a quick dry.

Good idea.

I also use 70% IA, but I put it into a little spray bottle that I bought at the drug store.
A spray uses WAY less and I don't contaminating the IA in the bottle for future uses.

After spraying I gently jab and scrub the diamond all over, especially the pavilion, with this tiny tooth brush, made by Gum or Butler.
Then I use canned air to spray away the IA on the diamond because it's now contaminated with whatever residue it cleaned off the diamond.
If you leave the IA to evaporate the residue does not evaporate ... only the IA itself evaporates.
If the diamond was gunky enough this can leave a visible film of residue on your diamond.

I do this daily as I want the best light-performance possible from my rock.

Yes, I think they are the perfect brush for cleaning jewelry, especially set diamonds.
After many years of gentle but daily use, mine is worn out so it's time for a new one ...

Amazon Prime sells em in a pack of 3 for $6.90 ($2.30 ea) ... or a pack of 12 for $18.90, ($1.58 ea).

Thanks Kenny. I just ordered the 3 pack. I was tempted to get the 12 pack since it was half the price per toothbrush but then I realized I do not need 12 of these. Yet. Thank you for sharing these with us.

I have a 91% alcohol spray bottle I use on my jewelry. I got it from Amazon over a year ago but of course Amazon has been out of most alcohol since Covid panicking and hoarding started. Luckily I still have a few spray bottles of the 90% left that I use for my jewelry.

Here's what I use.

I use 70% IPA when I was able to access it at work.

DK :))

What about using an electric toothbrush? Good or bad idea? I like the little toothbrush you posted too.

FWIW, I'm over 60 so, 3 days a week, I can get into Costco an hour before their opening for y'allz pre-pubescent tender young thangs. :lol-2:

For a thousand dollars I'll buy any hot young babe here some 70% IA or toilet paper.

I never though of that.
Though, using my manual technique, I can say with certainty there is not a single atom of gunk on my Octavia.

Our Costco has the over 60 crowd allowed in an hour earlier 5 days a week. Check and see if your Costco doesn't allow the same...
OK just checked and there rules are changing as of July 13th. Right now, for most Costco stores the hours for the over 60 crowd is Mon-Fri but starting July 13th only Tues and Thurs have early hours for those over 60. I would say this is a good thing because that means Covid 19 is less of a risk but I don't think that is true. I fear we might be getting a rebound and perhaps the Costco hours will once again increase for those over 60. I hope I am wrong.

ETA: there are exceptions noted in the link I shared above that might apply to some PSers depending where you live. Some of the Costco stores are leaving the Mon-Fri early hours for those over 60 in place.

Exceptions:

  • Los Angeles, CA: Senior Shopping Hours are from 9 to 10 a.m., daily. Locations include: Los Feliz, Van Nuys, Woodland Hills, Pacoima, and Northridge.
  • Culver City, CA: Senior Shopping Hours are from 8 to 9 a.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Iwilei (Honolulu), HI: Senior Shopping Hours are from 8 to 9 a.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Massachusetts: Senior Shopping Hours are 8:30 - 9:30 a.m., daily.
  • Teterboro, NJ: Senior Shopping Hours are 8 to 9 a.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Brooklyn, NY: Senior Shopping Hours are 8 to 9 a.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Staten Island, NY: Senior Shopping Hours are 8 to 9 a.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Westbury, NY: Senior Shopping Hours are 7 to 9 a.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Oregon: Senior Shopping Hours are 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., Monday through Friday.
  • The following Bay Area locations’ Senior Shopping Hours are 8 to 9 a.m., Monday through Friday:
    • El Camino, Folsom, Great Oaks, Modesto, Richmond, San Leandro, South San Francisco

Thanks - I am ordering these!!

The brushes are $9 each in Canada. Why? I'll try to find one in a store. Plus a small spray bottle.

Thanks for the toothbrush idea!

I have one - rechargeable with a round head - that I bought to use only for cleaning my jewelry; I would not use it on any pave though. I think it was a basic/cheap one from Target, but works great!

I’ve also used it to kind of replicate an ultrasonic by soaking the jewelry in a dish with hot water and Dawn, then just laying the toothbrush across the top of the dish while on, and let it vibrate the dish for a minute or two ... works really well and less space taken up vs. an ultrasonic machine; easier to travel with as well.
