Hey so sorry if this has been done...but I thought it would be cool to post a thread about movies PSers have seen or rented recently and their thoughts!

so...anyone seen any good movies recently? I saw Toy Story 3 with BF and it was super cute
 
The best I've seen recently is the 1965 film, "The Pawnbroker" with Rod Steiger.

It was the first film to deal with a survivor from the Holocaust.
It is grim subject matter but an absolutely superb film IMHO.
 
I saw inception yesterday. It's the new Leonardo dicaprio Ellen page movie. It was really intense but I loved it. It was like a psychological thriller about dreams and the subconscious.
 
We recently watched the new Alice in Wonderland. It was really cool! I definitely don't think it's a movie for little kids... Lots of eye gouging and chopping off heads!

I can't wait to see this! My husband and I are waiting until late on a weeknight, hoping the theater is mostly empty then.

The last REALLY good movies we've rented are Inglorious Basterds and Zombieland. We bought both.

If you love Ellen Page, see Hard Candy... OMG, that was super intense. She must have been 13 or 14??

Saw The good guy today on demand, loved it... DD and I were just talking about the dating scene in NYC, so this was right up our alley...

She played a 14-year-old, but I think she was 17 or 18 during filming. She looks young, though, even now!

And it was super intense. I couldn't finish it. I had to stop during THAT scene- you know which one I'm talking about. :shock:

I don't know how I got through it, freaked me out!!! I had no idea she was 17 at the time it was shot. I think she's a great actress, loved Juno. Etc...
 
We loved Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and today we saw The Girl Who Played with Fire. Not as good as Dragon but entertaining. Hope the last one in the trilogy will be as good as the first one.

Last week we saw I Am Love. It was good but not great and I didn't care for the ending. Why is it that previews are almost always better than the actual movie?
 
Im kind of a movie junkie so I have seen Karate Kid, which was very good, not really for kids though, A-Team, funny action movie, and Toy Story 3.

I have also queued up Law Abiding Citizen on Netflix. Awesome movie with a good twist.
 
We just saw "Knight and Day" and both of us really enjoyed.
 
I just watched Cyrus last night and enjoyed it a lot. It's my favorite acting crew - Catherine Keener, Marisa Tomei, John C. Reilly. Jonah Hill did a very good job.
 
i just saw When in Rome with Kristen Bell (it had been in my Netflix queue for a few weeks). UMmmmm, it wasn't really that good

That was the last movie we saw also. It was a "filler choice" in my Netflix queue because I was running out of ideas. You're right, it wasn't very good. It was just one of those run of the mill, less than A-list romantic comedies.
 
We just finished watching "Public Enemies" with Johnny Depp. It was really good, but it felt a bit long. That could just be because we started watching it last night and finished it this afternoon.

I also recently saw "Twilight: Eclipse." It was okay -- a good way to pass a really hot and humid day (air conditioning in the theater).

We have just about every channel in our cable package, yet there never seems to be good movies that I want to watch. It annoys me to no end. I'd rather have Netflix again (but now I don't want to get it because we're paying $$$ for cable.). Anyway...

Is anybody going to see A-Team?

I loved the original and am cranky that it seems most of the 'new' movies are just re-makes. And crap re-makes at that. I feel disloyal to the original if I see this movie :blackeye: .

I saw it with BF as soon as it came out. I was not a big fan of the original series and really enjoyed the movie. BF is a BIG A-team fan (I have had to convince him more then once that he should not put a red stripe on his little Toyota Vitz to make it look like a tiny A-team van) and he really enjoyed it...and made me go see it again. His only critisism is that he dosn't think Hanibal Smith wa cast well in the new movie but loved everything else.

Anyone else seen this and liked it? BF would like to go see it but I strongly dislike Tom Cruz and tend to boycot his movies.
 
As for what I have seen latley,

BF and I are movie buffs, go to the cinema atleast once a week (unless there really is nothing decent to watch) nd have a pretty decent dvd collection so we see most of the more mainsteam movies realeasted in cinemas over here.

Some of the recently released movies I've seen:

Shrek 4
Toystory 3
A-team
Boy
Geet him to the greek
Karate Kid
Sex and the city
Eclipse
Exit through the gift shop (film festival)
St Trinnians 2 (dvd)

and I give up trying to remember any further back.
 
OMG I just saw the most wonderful film, the 1958 French comedy "Mon Oncle".
So fresh, clever, quirky and unique.

It is subtitled but there is very little dialog to read; it's all visual comedy.

I very strongly recommend this film and since it is streaming on Netfilx so you don't even have to put it into your queue.

Mon Oncle ("My Uncle") is a 1958 film comedy by French filmmaker Jacques Tati. The first of Tati's films to be released in colour,[3] Mon Oncle won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, a Special Prize at the 1958 Cannes Film Festival,[4] and the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Foreign Language Film, receiving more honors than any of Tati's other cinematic works.

The film centers on the socially awkward yet lovable character of Monsieur Hulot and his quixotic struggle with postwar France's infatuation with modern architecture, mechanical efficiency and American-style consumerism. As with most Tati films, Mon Oncle is largely a visual comedy; color and lighting are employed to help tell the story. The dialogue in Mon Oncle is barely audible, and largely subordinated to the role of a sound effect. Consequently, most of the conversations are not subtitled. The only decent movie I have seen recently is "Shutter Island". I thought it was brilliant, and if it had been released earlier, I think Ben Kingsley would have been up for a best supporting actor nomination.
 
I saw inception on Friday night. It was excellent. I think Leo is a fantastic actor, and Ellen Page is amazing too.

Steal, I totally hear you on all the remakes. Come on, think of something original for god's sake.

One of the best movies I saw recently was Mesrine. Brilliant acting.

Get Him to the Greek: terrible movie :nono:
Youth Revolt: eh. It was a bit on the ridiculous side but ok for a Sunday night, nothing better to do movie.
Shutter Island: fantastic.
Grown ups: terrible.
When in Rome: terrible
Brooklyn's Finest: awesome (if you're into that kind of movie)

I think that's it. I want to see Inception too! That will have to be a friday night thing 8)
 
Another vote for "Hard Candy". WOW can the girl act !
Don't bail before the end. It's the best part.

And for something completely different there is
"Bubba Ho Tep"

Off beat and much better than it sounds.

"Mon Oncle" is hilarious as he battles technology

On a sober note but well worth seeing is
"White Light Black Rain"
a documentary about the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
It features footage of survivors being treated shortly after the blast
and interviews with them 60 years later still bearing the scars of their ordeal..
It is graphic but I don't feel gratuitous.
 
There is also an excellent fictionalized account called simply "Black Rain"
in Japanese with good subtitles and captioning. It's black and white.

The last decent movie I saw in theaters was Shutter Island, but even that was only ok. Last weekend I watched the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which I thought was pretty good. Still, I've been dying to see a really great movie, not just one that's entertaining. I'll be watching this thread closely for inspiration
 
Movies I've watched recently:

Iron Man 2: I liked it; it was fun
Splice: really enjoyed it, but I love sci fi movies
Eclipse: It was okay. For a teen flick it was good
Predators: Loved it. Big fan of the franchise
Karate Kid: Really enjoyed it. Good remake.
A-team: Fun action flick
Toy Story 3: Absolutely loved it. Just wonderful.
Inception: The movie I've been anticipating for the last year. Finally it's here! It was amazing. Freakin' awesome. My mind is still reeling.

I'm going to see Salt on Saturday. Can't wait for Resident Evil: Afterlife and Tron: Legacy!
