that man''s voice in LOTR, all the elvish- *swoon*(showing my inner nerd, but hey

)(is there a melting emotie? because I feel that would be very appropriate here

)

as for singing: I love when Viggo Mortensen sings in LOTR, but in general I love Josh Groban, among many many others. It''s a shame FI is partially deaf in one ear and quite tone deaf in general
39.gif
but it''s still cute when he tries to sing to me

NERD HERE TOO!!

I was thinking Ian McKellen as Gandalf. Such a wise yet compassionate voice. Very comforting. Actually, a lot of the LOTR voices...

Pretty much anyone who does narration on documentaries. It''s always someone with a recognizable voice.

My first thought was Barry. I''ll never forget walking into Cherokee Studios and hearing him. No one has a voice like Barry White. Not too many people had a hairdo like Barry either, for that matter

Sarah Vowell. *shudder* Memorable, but not in a good way.

Sarah Vowell reading

BF listened to a book on tape that she read and made it through 8 hours of that.

I had to agree with James Earl Jones, Morgan Freedman, Barry White, I love Sean Connery (Dragonheart).. Frank Sinatra (the younger years)... Oh.. in that same realm, I love Harry Connick Jr. (just for crooners in movies. lol) Boris Karloff (Grinch), Burl Ives.. (Rudolph).. *eta Vincent Price!

Harry Connick Jr.... *SWOON*
30.gif
His voice is silky smooth, like fine chocolate!

James Earl Jones, Mr T, Fred Gwynn, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Don "Thunder Throat" LaFontaine, Clint Eastwood
Thats a start but there are many more you would know with only a word or two

so glad I''m not the only LOTR nerd here

I''m adding Steve Perry to my list... I LOVE JOURNEY!!

I''m gonna go with Oprah on this one...she asked this actor to read her the phonebook ~

Sir Anthony Hopkins

...Hello Clarice...

I looooove James Earl Jones voice. It used to scare my sister when we were young. But who totally does it for me is Keifer Sutherland. I want to have him read me naughty poetry. His line from the Lost Boys "where''re you going, Star?" always gets me.

For singing? Dave Gahan (Depeche Mode)
Brian Ferry (Roxy Music)
Jeff Buckley

James Earl Jones, Sally Kellerman and Anthony Hopkins for me

Louis Armstrong. It is impossible to not recognise his voice.

Not sure how well known he is in the USA but here in the UK I think everyone would recognise his voice...

David Attenborough.

I adore him and his voice.

Ditto to so many of the above, and I have to add Alan Rickman.

I adore him
Yes! and I would like to add Mike Rowe and Judi Dench

Actors? Most that I like have already been mentioned, but right off the top of my head, Patrick Stewart comes to mind. In general, I''d say that British actors use their voices better. Maybe being more steeped in the theatre.

For singers? Memorable? Callas. Pavarotti. Dmitri Hvrovstosky. Outside the classical world, Eva Cassidy, Sting. Basically, too many to mention. Oh, one I confess to not being too fond of....Renee Fleming. Her voice annoys me somehow. She swallows everything and I think her German quite stinks. (Sorry, back into opera nerd-dom again)

Oh....my husband. Quite deep, a bit harsh somehow - with a spearpoint on the end of it (singers will know whereof I speak), with just a hint of a drawl. NOT a pretty voice. A voice of command. Highly masculine, and it stands out in any mix, regardless of volume. I''ve loved that voice for 30 years. :)

ditto, thritto, and quatro for Alan Rickman.

Great topic! As a singer myself, I pay a lot of attention to the voice. My favorite and most memorable voices are some of the classical and neo-classical singers that I love: Anne Sofie von Otter, Cecelia Bartoli, Stephanie Blythe, Natalie Dessay, Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban...the list goes on!

Ooooh, ksinger...Eva Cassidy is another of my favorites! And I am also not a fan of Renee Fleming. I can take her in small bits though. Same with Sarah Brightman.

What !No one has mentioned karen Carpenter or Barbara Strisand yet for reconizable womans voices!?

Louis Armstrong. It is impossible to not recognise his voice.

Oh wow, you are so right! I love the Great Satchmo!

I always liked Brenda Vaccaro's raspy husky voice.

I always hated Melanie Griffith's voice.

James Earl Jones for most recognizable and soothing voice.

Yeah Sarah Brightman annoys me mightily. As did the alleged wunderkind, Charlotte Church. Ick. Bocelli is shaping up these days, but he used to be ghastly.

Since you too are a singer, I''ll suggest some "memorable" voices just for the voice geek in you. Julianne Baird and Ewa Podles, early music and Handel specialist, and an incredible contralto who makes mincemeat of Rossini, respectively. Amazing, both of them. And of course, Juan Diego Florez. Rossini tenor. Aaiiiiiii!!! What a voice! Utterly unmistakable. He made me a fan of Rossini tenors, when I was mostly a fan of the bigger voices, ala Pavarotti.

Yeah, I could talk voices all day! :-)

How about Kathleen Turner? She has that great gravelly, husky voice that all the men LOVED in Romancing the Stone.

I am growing more and more intolerant to Sarah Brightman.

But on the positive side, I would like to mention Karl Dietrich and Natalie Stuttzman.

How about Patrick Stewart? X Men, Star Trek... He has a great eloquence about him.

Elvis when he was singing!!

I''m gonna go with Leonard Nimoy. He narrated a lot of things too. (Sigh, yes, my inner nerd is showing, how embarrasing!)

As far as *memorable*- my voice is ridiculously memorable/recognizable in the *not-good* way. I''ve had people I barely know recognize my voice on the phone after not seeing them for a decade. My voice isn''t high and squeaky or anything, but it is very strange in it''s own way- I sound half strangled, or like I''m choking on something.

Sean Connery and Morgan Freeman, his voice is like a vocal saxophone, very smooth and deep voice.

Definitely Sean Connery. And R2-D2!

Fran Drescher and Gilbert Godfried have the two most annoying, yet recognizable voices. Listening to them, to me, is like listening to nails on a chalkboard.

Michael Clark Duncan - seriously deep manly voice! Eartha Kitt, John Goodman (he''s done so many disney voice overs).
