Personally, I think this is pretty significant. It seems the evidence is mounting that Russia has been actively trying to influence the US election results. Personally I think Trump keeps talking about Fake news, is to deflect from the huge amount of real fake news being generated, at levels never before. I'm not talking about mainstream news outlets. Talking about Melania's heels is not fake news. It may be frivolous, but it is not fake, like the users and the posts and the ads of Facebook. Considering that Russia is certainly not a Democracy, certainly not an ally to us, has been seeking to learn our state secrets, and possibly involved in harming US diplomats in Cuba https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/24/us/politics/health-attack-us-embassy-havana.html?mcubz=0,
I feel the "strange" relationship Trump has with Putin makes us less safe.

Re US diplomats, no one is saying the "R" word (Russia) but sonic weapons are right up KGB ally. Cuba has NO motivation to harm US diplomats, and the country most against warming US-Cuba relations is -yes Russia.
This article talks about other systematic efforts Russia did in interfering with election results.

I think people conflate possible Trump collusion with the Russian efforts to interfere with the election, and if they support Trump, it colors how they see Russian interference ("there's no evidence Trump colluded so far (ergo no evidence will be discovered)", "investigation is a witch hunt", "no votes were changed/affected", "Russians have been interfering with our and others' elections for years").

But it's important to realize that the possibility of a Trump-Russia collusion is a small part of Russia's effort to influence our election and that their activities during the last election and campaign had been an unprecedented escalation in interference. So I'm glad there is more evidence of Russia acting unilaterally. Maybe that will start to pry apart the issues of Russian interference and Trump-Russia collusion so people can see daylight/the difference between the two and support the Russian interference investigation even if they support Trump.

This is good that it is coming out after Facebook denying it for months. I am conflicted on how it should be handled because Facebook is a private company and its operations should not be monitored by the government but do they have a duty to report or monitor something like this? Frankly I am not surprised.
