Hi all,

I am still on the hunt for my upgrade diamond. Here are two new contenders that seem promising!

I am not sure if this first one is borderline "steep/deep" though...can you please let me know?

1) 1.8 carat AGS ideal cut H SI1
Table: 56.8 %
Depth: 61.8 %
Crown angle: 35.1
Pavilion angle: 40.7
Measurements: 7.78 x 7.83 x 4.82 mm
Stars: 52
LGF %: 80

2) 1.85 carat GIA excellent cut H SI2
Table: 57 %
Depth: 61.3 %
Crown angle: 35
Pavilion angle: 40.6
Measurements: 7.87 x 7.91 x 4.84 mm
Stars: 50
LGF %: 80
Fluor: MEDIUM BLUE

So my thoughts:

Diamond 1 might be a borderline "steep/deep." Even though it is an AGS ideal cut, it does NOT fall in the outline for AGS ideals in the Holloway Cut Adviser. Odd.

Diamond 2 is way cheaper than diamond 1. Diamond 2 has better angles also, and is bigger. However, not sure about the medium blue fluorescence. I would be worried about it going foggy/oily looking in sunlight. Does all medium blue fluor tend to do this?

Thank you for your help!!

First is steep normal and it is fine.

Med blue will not be oily.
2nd is a combo that needs to be checked for pavilion range and gia rounding problems.

Getting pictures is the next step if possible.

Ya, both numbers are good. AGS ideal outline is only a cutter's guide, AGS uses 3D model of the stone to actually determine the cut grade rather than the average numbers so it is not unusual for a stone to falls outside the guideline and still gets an AGS0 cut grade, even stones within the guideline might not get an AGS0.

#2 is discounted because of the SI2 and MB fluor, sometimes also because of GIA report. Usually only very rare cases of SB/VSB gets the oily/hazy effect. MB should not be a problem.

Ditto.

Thank you so much strm, stone-cold, and Lorelei!

Blue fluor could be kind of cool actually! At least I'd always know it was my damond. Will keep you updated when I get Idealscopes or other images...

strm, what is wrong with the 35 crown angle paired with 40.6 pav?

Are you saying because of GIA's rounding that it might not really be 40.6?

Here is a pic of stone 2, the one with the blue fluor:

GIA Excellent 1.85 ct H SI2
Table: 57 %
Depth: 61.3 %
Crown: 35
Pavilion: 40.6
Stars: 50
LGF: 80

The diamond looks a little dark to me, but then again it could just be the lighting.

Experts, any thoughts on the pics?

Thanks in advance!

Poor lighting on the pics. No way to really tell anything about the stone.

That is the shadow of the camera. The camera might be too near the stone when the photo is taken or the stone has obstruction issue, can''t tell because we do not know the setup.

Thanks, that is what I suspected. So no real way to tell unfortunately, unless they take more pics in better lighting.

The arrows of the diamond look fat, which is odd seeing how the LGF are at 80.
