MonopolyPicks A NEW Piece!

So, Hasbro, in a blatantly obvious ploy to get publicity, will axe one of the game pieces and replace it with something new.

I couldn't care less, but somehow, I do care. I am in a denial that I --oddly-- care deeply.

First, the ones we have now. Which one do you think can go?

I vote the battleship. Scrap it. Or the wheelbarrow. Seriously, what is that thing?

Then, which one do you want to replace it with? I am torn, I like the kitty, but as a PSer, I think I am contractually obligated to say the ring. But I kinda like the robot.

How fun is this!!! The wheelbarrow can go but the replacement, that one is a little tougher.... As you said we are sort of obligated to say the ring but I am in your camp Ilander, the kitty is adorable and I like the robot also, I think the design of the ring is lacking or I may have liked that idea better.

This cracked me up.

I would be fine with losing the wheelbarrow or the thimble - symbolism-wise, they always made me scratch my head - and would vote for the ring or the robot, assuming better prongs. Otherwise, danger Will Robinson all the way.

I just played monopoly with my kids last weekend and I had to explain what a thimble was because they didn't know! But that being said, I would not get rid of it because it reminds me of my grandma

I say get rid of the wheelbarrow and replace it with a cat.

BTW, my game does not have a dog. Maybe I lost it? I don't remember a dog from when I was a kid either.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Thimble... Iron... Kids have no clue what those are ! Especially the old school iron. It doesn't look like anything we use anymore! I love the robot!

I like the boot, I like the dog, I like the wheelbarrow (to cart all my cash in). I even would do the iron (iron out out the competition!) Ok, maybe because I couldn't get the dog or whatever. But no one really liked the thimble or battleship so I vote for those to go. Maybe they can swap out the battleship for a little jet or helicopter.

I like all the new styles, so hard to decide. I'd want to be the robot.

I would keep the top hat - it is such an icon for rampant capitalism and monopoly. On the same line, I would add the ring as another symbol of riches and luxuries, even though I think the cat is adorable and would make a lovely pair for the dog. The thimble and iron can go.

We always used to argue over the dog. If I lost, I would be the thimble. I don't know, but I don't like the design on the potential new pieces. I wish they were more stylistically similar. Okay, my grumble over, I would say kitty or guitar - I HATE the ring, its so ugly!

I thought the iron and thimble very unique and well detailed. It has the same whimsical feel as the top hat which nobody wears anymore these days as well, so that isn't a good enough reason to get rid of them. I find the wheelbarrow fun to "roll" across the board too. The ship does nothing for me though.

In terms of replacement, none appeals to me. They could have made the ring a halo or something nicer looking. The robot is sort of cute and I think the cat could be made more interesting.
