Mom''s birthday - and a question of faith

Hi all,
Sorry this is long! My mom''s 60th birthday is coming up in a few weeks and I wanted to get her the Elsa Peretti zodiac pendant, since it is symbolic of her birthday and I think it is her style, in general. HOWEVER, it then hit me that she might be morally against it. Over the past 10 years she has become something of a born-again Christian and I don''t know if the zodiac goes against her beliefs. For reference, she believes that Harry Potter/wizardry is a sin. Sigh... these aren''t my beliefs, so I don''t really know where she''s coming from. I know that Christians are against astrology for forecasting or as a higher power, but... is the symbol itself (Aries in her case) considered anti-Christian? It technically just represents the constellation, which Christians do acknowledge, I think.

Bottom line is, if anyone has any experience/ideas about this please let me know! I don''t want to give her jewelry that will conflict with her ideals. But otherwise I think the pendant would be perfect for her. I know I could find another Tiffany silver pendant but none seemed as relevant for a milestone birthday as this one.


Since her birthday is April, diamonds are her birthstone so I could go in that direction instead, but wanted to keep it under about a $200 budget, and all the pendants I could find with diamonds on other online sites are heart-shaped or lockets which I don''t think she''d like. If you have other ideas please pass those on too.

Have you considered asking her what she thinks about astrological signs? Might be a good place to start!

Do you know any of her friends from her church that you could ask? Failing that, does the church have any sort of staff or clergy that you could call? Many are listed in the phone book with a number that reaches a church secretary who may be able to help you out.

I'll just offer what I think/know from my own experience. My mom is a "born again" Christian, and I don't think she would like it.

If she is very religious, what about an Angel pin or flower pin, with maybe one teeny diamond in it? I'll try to look and see if I can find anything like what I'm thinking of.
 
I can''t contribute as to religious beliefs, but I personally think that a zodiac pendant would generally be inappropriate for someone who wasn''t really into astrology generally, and a bit immature for someone who is turning 60. They are neat and stylized, but if you know she''s not into that, it seems like a pointless risk.
If you are looking for something reasonable that has diamonds, why not consider something with pearls or gemstones that has a diamond accent?
If you want something from Tiffany, I think the Infinity or Eternal Circle pendants are much more sophisticated and still meaningful, especially for a 60th birthday.

Good points from all so far, thanks for giving me perspective on this. I think you hit the nail on the head with it being a pointless risk, enbcfsobe. I was looking forward to stopping in Tiffany''s today, though. Maybe I''ll just buy myself the pendant for my birthday in a few months to get it out of my system.

I''ll still take suggestions for alternatives, though! I think something more abstract/stylized in silver or gold is up her alley, rather than a traditional gemstone setting.

The second is nice because it is a "past present future" idea and had 3 small diamonds for April.

The three circles are also symbolic for our family (her + 2 kids). Now I''m just trying to decide if the overall blue-box factor of Tiffany takes precedence over the other two. I think it would make her feel a little extra-special.

Sorry - just wanted to clairfy ... it''s 3 interlocking rings representing past present and future.
