I have a 1.17 RB from JAmes Allen set in a platinum 6 prong solitaire. I wanted to upgrade to a 1.51 and use the same setting. JA is telling me the whole setting will break if they try to modify it. I am pretty dissappointed.
Does everyone who upgrades have to get a new setting???? I am a little surprised by this

Not everyone it depends on how the head of your ring is attached to the shank. If it's a peg head, you can switch to a different head only with most shanks. If it's an integrated head changing the head is usually skill and time prohibitive so a new setting is the most feasible, efficient, and economic option.

The JA rep said since it is handmade it cannot be modified without breaking the entire ring ??? eh still way disappointed. :blackeye:
I cannot swallow another 1000 bucks less than a year later for the same setting sigh.

Hi jewels2,

I don't have any specific information about your order, but it sounds like you've got the handmade six prong solitaire that's made from pulled wire. That being the case, the majority of the time (and therefore cost) of that ring is in the prong work. We *might* be able to remove the basket from the under-bezel, and make a new basket, but my bet is the design team felt the cost savings of trying to reuse the shank wasn't worth the potential integrity issues of cutting the ring apart and trying to put it back together.

If you would like I can check on this for you Monday. Just ask your CSR to forward me your order details.

All the best,

I understand what you are saying. Just disappointed.
I did not want a new band at this time, I am just not happy with the "I" color I have. :(sad
