Oh man, this is RICH
Over the past few months there have been several threads here on PS discussing various articles published in Modern Jeweler Magazine which seem to paint internet diamond dealers in a bad light, bash our very sense of integrity and provide retail jewelers with "tactics" about how to combat the internet - most of which are based on the premise of creating fear of getting ripped off by the internet dealers, i.e. "I heard about this guy who bought a diamond online and, blah, blah, blah" so imagine my amusement when I receive an email from Modern Jeweler this morning advertising their (apparent) partnership with Ideal Diamond Solutions "e-commerce for independent retail jewelers" which starts out:
"Did you know...
Today: 4% of all diamond and jewelry sales happen online.
By 2018: 20% of all diamond and jewelry sales will happen online.
That''s a sales growth potential of 500%"
Paraphrasing: Sign up for our Webinar now and we''ll show you how to take advantage of the internet using our turn-key e-commerce solution so that you can take advantage of the power of the internet and gain the sales you might otherwise lose...
Last month: All internet dealers are THE DEVIL
This month: Come Party & Profit with us in Haiti
So there you have it, apparently Modern Jeweler finally figured out how to make money off the internet, they''re going to help retail jewelers buy a hosting package. The irony of this advertising campaign is phenomenal, I can''t stop laughing, "embrace the internet lowly retail knaves because Modern Jeweler has apparently finally figured out how to profit from your doing so
