Hi all, I''m a first time poster, so I apologize if I''m writing this in the wrong forum.
Here''s my story, and if you can help me, I''d appreciate it.
I decided earlier this week that I want to propose to my (amazing) girlfriend. We''re traveling to Europe next Saturday (July 26) to visit her family. I''ve spent the past two days looking for rings and discretely asking her friends for advice. Most importantly, time-wise, I decided that I want a ring bought and in my hand by thursday of next week so that I can propose while we''re in Europe. I want her to be able to share the moment with her family, who she doesn''t see very often, and I think it will make both her and her parents happy to be able to celebrate together.
Fortunately, I''ve been able to talk to two of her best girlfriends, and they''ve given me some advice. I know that she does not seem to want a traditional solitaire, and that she wants a setting that is somewhat more modern. Her friend was nice enough to send me a picture of her ring that my girlfriend apparently likes. (attached) From what I understand, the style of the setting is particularly important to her.
So I''ve been looking for rings that are sort of that ''twisted'' style. (I apologize for my total ignorance of ring and diamond related terms, I''m just lucky that I found this great site so that I have any clue at all what to look for)
Here''s a ring I found that I think is beautiful.
http://www.knoxjewelers.biz/index.htm?rn=1659&action=show_detail
But the price of the setting ($2,190) is already within striking distance of my budget (somewhere between $2500 and $4,000)
and that''s without the rock! And actually, if I could design it myself, I would almost want the diamond to be smaller, to be in a less prominent setting, if that makes sense, and not stand up away as much from the ring itself. For example, if you look at her friend''s ring, her ring isn''t nearly as dramatic or surely as expensive as that knox ring, but I think the way the stone doesn''t stand out as much maybe something my girlfriend would like.
And this one is really nice as well:

But because it''s a custom ring, I don''t know if I could afford it, and I don''t know if Knox even duplicates custom rings.
It''s definitely not a traditional ring, which I think might be good.
I''m just really unsure at this point. If anyone could point me toward some more modern, twisted style rings like that, I''d be in your debt. I did a search for ''modern engagement rings'' on google and found an article that had this line:
"However, a traditional solitaire setting is upswept and raises the diamond high. Some people today select settings where the center stone sits low, creating a look that is elegant and ergonomic."
So I think I''m looking for a twisted ring, with a center stone that sits reasonably low..(or maybe even without a dominant center stone, I don''t know....or even if it has a prominent center stone, the twisted or modern or unique style of the ring is the main thing) and is as elegant and unique as she deserves. I really love this girl and I want to make her happy. Hopefully, if you all can help point me in the right direction, I will. Thanks for any help.
best,
Chris
