What do you all think about mixing stone shapes? Example, a RB solitaire with princess stones in the w-band? I have a lovely RB solitaire and am thinking about a diamond band. I have fallen for princesses in channel set, b/c I like how the stones are flush against eachother (diff from the space you get between rounds in channel set).
Do you think it is weird to mix and match? Speaking of mix and match, how many of you have multiple w-bands that you switch off depending on your mood? (My husband hates my love of jewelry...)
Love to see some pics if you got em!

I love to mix shapes. Below is a picture of my pear in its old and new settings. In the old solitaire setting I paired it with a Lucida half eternity band (modified squares) and in the new setting I mix and match bands - I''m wearing 2 different wedding bands in the pic on the right - one is with rbs and the other is with rbs in a marquise-like deco band. I shuffle them all around - that''s half the fun.

Whoops, forgot to attach the picture!

I really like both your old and new setting and all the bands! That''s awesome! Thanks for the pics.

No, its not weird at all! It''s what do YOU like best? I think mixing diamond types look great! Sets don''t always have to match perfectly; then the main stone could get lost by blending in too much.

I personally like having "extra" wedding bands

I mostly wear my princess channel band with my e-ring but will sometimes wear my plain platinum band instead. It makes my diamond pop and gives my e-ring a more understated, classic look. I''m actually thinking of buying a 4mm plain band as well.

Attached is the pair I wear most often

I mix and match all the time. To be honest noone ever notices but me. I put princesses with my Rb, emerald cuts with my rounds etc... Now, these are in the wedding band I wear with the e-ring of the day:)

Channel set princesses on the shank look great... so will the band next to the round ring, IMO.

Attached is my very mixed stone set.

Here is its story.

My original e-ring was the round brilliant with two trilliants. After about 12 years, I was tired of the setting. It also was set low, so there was a curve to the ring, and my wedding band would never sit flush. I also had a set of princess cut earrings that were lovely quality. I went in a local jewelry store one day and I saw this 5 stone ring with tapering Emerald cuts in yellow gold. It was very unusual and sturdy. I brought in the diamonds to the jeweler and asked him if it could work in platinum. I am really happy with the ring because there are no prongs.

It took me a long time to find the diamond wedding band in the correct proportions to my ring.

My set has rounds, princesses and trilliants, but as a whole it works. It''s also built like a Humvee. It needs to be. I raft, ski, swim, horseback ride wearing the set.

What an adorable ring!

Congratulations for the long list of sporting fun, despite the abuse you put your ring through

Gailrmv, if you like the look of mixed stones then you should go for it. It''s all in what you like. I happen to like the look myself so I think it would look great. I''ve always liked having something just a bit different.

Here''s my set.....square center stone w/round sides and round band.

I love the idea of mixing...

A more popular example is Jessica Simpson''s engagement and wedding ring. She wears a three stone pear cut diamond engagement ring and a large round diamond eternity ring.

Here''s a pic of a round solitaire and a princess channel set eternity band. Not the best pic but you can get the idea.

Mixing stone shapes is fine! Actually, I think RBs and princess cut channel bands go very well together!!!

Here''s my wedding set...RB and princess cut invisible set diamonds in the band. I don''t mind mixing shapes at all...I originally wanted round stones in my band but our jeweler convinced me rounds get dirty in between when they are channel set. (not that you can''t clean them) He was right, I am really happy with the choice I made.

I prefer my pieces to be uniform.

Thanks everyone for posting!! You have given me a lot of great ideas.
Pebbles, that is the look I had in mind! May I ask the width of your rings and the ct weight of your stones?

The solitaire is 1.5ct, but it is very deep and measures only 7mm so it looks like a 1.25ct stone. The setting is 3.5mm wide.

The eternity band is 1.27cwt, so the stones are about 4 points each. The band is 2.7mm wide.

Both are a size 6 1/2.
