Wishing you & your lovely hubby lots of love & luck for his biopsy tomorrow. Fingers & toes crossed - I'll be thinking about you :wavey:

Why don't I know about this? What is happening?

Deb

Missy, I'll be thinking of you, Sis. Fingers crossed, knowing it will all come out just fine. And we're here for you all the time.

--- Laurie

Thank you so much Alex and Laurie. You are both so sweet and supportive...I love my PS sisters!

Deb, hopefully it's nothing but my dh has had melanoma in the past and there's a suspicious lesion or 2 on his scalp so tomorrow he is seeing a plastic surgeon for a biopsy because our derm is worried about scarring and the such due to the area it is in.

Little wrinkle though. The office manager said if it is too large to do the biopsy in their office setting tomorrow he will be scheduled in an OR for the biopsy next week and they will make that determination tomorrow at his initial consult. They will try to do the biopsy tomorrow but cannot promise so that is just a little worrisome because I hate delaying it but I am hoping it all works out and that no matter what it will be benign.

I have not yet had melanoma myself, but both my parents have/had a history of skin cancer and my father had melanoma removed from under his eye a couple of years ago. The surgeon at Yale New Haven who started it got ill and his dermatologist had to look for someone else. By the best luck in the world she found a physician she hardly knew, but who proved to be a genius. He was both an ophthalmologist and a plastic surgeon. He took over and did a far better of removing all the cancer then neatened up the surgery on his face so that no one would ever have known he had had surgery. He was in less pain after the second surgery and the doctor gave him far more time and was kind and had a wonderful bedside manner! If anyone ever needs any surgery near the eye, I have a doctor here in Connecticut!

I hope that your husband does not need anything nearly as extensive as what my father had, but if he does, great doctors are out there doing great work! If you ever need help finding a specialist, let me know.

Deb/AGBF

I'll be thinking about you and DH Missy! My Dad and a good friend have had melanoma and subsequent surgery, so I can relate somewhat. It's always so scary....I hope that they can do the biopsy tomorrow and get you the results asap and hope that those results are totally benign. Fingers and toes crossed for you, girl!

Good wishes to you and your dh missy, I will keep you both in my thoughts...and I really hope they can take care of everything tomorrow!

dust Dust DUST!

Thank you Deb for your offer. I will keep it in mind. I am glad your father had a good outcome.
Thank you Yenny, Junebug and MZ. Yenny I hope your dad's friend is doing well.

All your good thoughts and wishes are very appreciated.

Hoping for the best missy.

And everyone else, think of getting a skin check.

Just had two things removed from my right thigh this week, texaskj. Please don't send me back so soon!!!

Well, then not you Deb. Hope the scars are small.
I need to go in a bad way. All that sun as a teenager.

Missy...DUST,DUST,DUST for your DH :!: .. :appl: :appl:

Thank you Dancing Fire! We appreciate the good wishes and all that healthy dust.

texasj-make sure you get yourself to the dermatologist. My dh has been getting body checks every 3 months and sometimes more frequently as in this case as they have been following him every month throughout the last 4 months or so because of his history and some suspicious lesions. Make that appointment and just go. For most people it is no big deal. Melanoma however is deadly and aggressive and early detection and removal is key for survival.

GOOD LUCK!!! POOF POOF POOF --->>> dust coming atcha from Canada!!!

Hope it all turns out to be minor and can be assessed with a good outcome, right there in the office. Fingers crossed --- big hugs to you and your DH!!!! (((HUGS)))

It's a lot of worry and fuss, but it will all be fine soon.

Dust to you, don't worry.

Thanks Enerchi and (((hugs))) back at ya.
iLander from your mouth to g-d's ears and thank you for the dust!

The surgeon did the biopsy today so yay on that and in fact he took off two suspicious lesions on his head so 2 for the price of 1 haha. We should have the results in about a week so fingers crossed on the results being benign.

In addition to all of this my dh has had a fever and aches all week but in true guy fashion refuses to see our internist saying it's just a bad cold. Ummm, aches and fever don't sound like a (bad or not) cold to me but I pick my battles and if he wants to just tough it out so be it. Truthfully since he's been sick since Monday not sure what the doctor could do anyway because if it is the flu (though my dh adamantly denies that as a possibility) it's too late to take any of the flu meds.

Anyway just glad the biopsy is over. One day at a time. Thanks for well wishes!

I am glad it is over, too. I hope the news comes quickly and is good!

Hugs,
Deb

Best wishes for excellent results!

Fingers crossed for good results.

Missy -

My fingers are crossed for your DH's biopsy results. The waiting is so hard.

Thanks again Deb and hugs right back at you!

Thank you MissGotRocks, tyty and Rainwood. I appreciate all the good thoughts and wishes for my dh.

I don't know how I've missed this thread before, missy - but my thoughts are definitely with you while you wait. I know how slooooow time crawls when you're waiting for medical results. Very high hopes that the histopathologist comes back with good news.

I hope everything comes back a-ok! It's hard to be in a sit and wait position so hopefully you can find something to distract you like a good discussion going on in another thread :cheeky:

I am so glad it has been done & results will be swift. You must keep up posted. And good luck with hubby being a man about maybe having the flu. Mine is an absolutely wimp & drains me with his Man-Flu!

Thank you Ginger! Looking forward to hopefully seeing you when you come to NYC this winter. :wavey:

Oh thank you Alex. I am so nervous right now trying not to think about it yet not being able to stop the worrying. And he definitely has the flu. Fever, coughs, sore throat, body aches, and other unmentionable symptoms I won't share because it's not pleasant. Ofc he is insisting on going in to work this AM for a presentation he is expected to give. He has missed work all week (first time he ever missed work due to being sick) and I don't have the heart to fight him on this. I did start him on Z pac yesterday just because I think he has a secondary bacterial infection (again won't go into details here lol) and I hope he starts feeling better.

Thank you for thinking of us and starting this thread. You are such a sweetheart. Hope your hair is growing thick and long and healthy! :wavey:

Results came back and good news and not terrible news.

Good news is the larger lesion is benign. Not terrible news is the smaller lesion is an atypical nevus (aka dysplastic nevus) and not great news is the plastic surgeon somehow didn't get all of the smaller lesion as the biopsy showed it was not surrounded by normal tissue when removed. An atypical nevus can at a later date become a melanoma especially in a person with a previous history of melanoma. Sooo that means potentially my dh has to go back and get more removed.

Our dermatologist is going to speak with the histopathologist personally and see exactly what the pathologist saw before making that determination. So I am going to try to not micromanage (because I want it all out period!) and let the surgeon, the dermatologist and pathologist discuss amongst themselves and make the determination as what to do. But my derm knows I am not a risk taker so he will make the appropriate decision once all the facts are in.

Thank you everyone for your support and well wishes. I truly appreciate it and hugs all around.

Well, I wish you'd gotten ALL good news, but I'm glad at least that neither was a melanoma. I agree with you that I'd prefer to get it all out now and not give it a chance to turn into melanoma, but if you trust your doctors, they do know best. Please keep us posted....

Thanks for the update, missy. I am glad that your husband is followed so closely. Given the way he is watched, nothing is going to get by his doctors! I am sorry for his pain, but medically speaking, it is all good news, since it can all be taken care of and will be: whether it is taken care of by surgery alone or a combination of some surgery and some monitoring by professionals who know what to look for and how often to look!

Hugs,
Deb
(((missy)))

I echo Yenny's sentiments. And they WILL make the right decision, which I expect will be to get it all out.
