I got this idea from another forum but thought it might be fun. Have you ever misheard song lyrics only to find/figure out what the real lyrics were later?

There was a song a while back by Daniel Powter called Bad Day, the actual lyrics are:

"You had a bad day, the camera don't lie"

But I heard:

You had a bad day, your camel toe lied

The Rascals Groovin'

Actual lyrics:

"Life would be ecstasy, you and endlessly"

I heard:

Life would be ecstasy, you and me and Leslie

Share yours!

This was being played loudly in my dorm during my senior year of college and I thought the lyrics were, um, more profane:

"Play that funky music white boy"

I heard: "Play that f'ing music right boy"

I actually only learned the true words recently.

When my daughter was 3-4 years old, she loved the Bruno Mars song, "Finesse"...

Daughter sang: "Gonna make a mess - what's the magic word"

Actual lyrics: "We out here drippin' in finesse - it don't make no sense"

I have no idea where she came up with the second part, but it was hilarious and we never corrected her. LOL She makes up her own lyrics to pretty much every song she sings. Once day (for a different song) I said, "I think the words are..." and she replied, "No, mommy, that's not right! Sing it RIGHT!! It's this..."

Okay! LOL

Kids insisting their lyrics are right is one of the best parts of parenting! Our son who is 13 was singing Bruno Mars That's How I Like It and the lyrics are:

"I'm talkin' trips to Puerto Rico
Say the word and we go"

He was singing:

"I'm talkin' trips to Puerto Rico
Say the word Enrico"

We were like who is Enrico and why is he going? :lol-2:

When I was a kid, I asked my mom for a certain 45 record for Christmas. I even wrote it down for her.

Dutifully, she went to the record store and asked the clerk, "Can you help me find a record with the song 'Let's Get Digital' on it?"

The salesperson busted out laughing and my mom was so embarrassed when he explained it was "Let's Get Physical."

Oh just remembered one, my son was in first grade and came home oh soooo proud of himself that he learned the National Anthem and remembered all the words and proceeded to sing
''O Canada our home and Naked Land'' lol I tried correcting him and telling him it's actually Native land not naked, his response was ''Mommy, I think you need to go back to school, because you need to learn it. lol

I definitely have but cannot remember right now any of them. I do remember Doug Heffernan from the King of Queens sitcom.

Forever in Blue Jeans

Doug thought it was Reverend in Blue Jeans.

I miss that show. So funny.

My husband, from a state in which this was a political issue at the time, thought John Mellencamp was singing, "Let the bottle bill come and soothe your soul" instead of "Let the Bible Belt come and soothe your soul."

And of course, there is the ever-famous "Gladly the Cross-Eyed Bear."

omg my other hilarious one is: Nico and Vinz, Am I Wrong

If one thing I know I fall but I grow (correct lyrics)

I could never hear the lyrics so I always sing:

If one thing I know, I buy what I grow!

It makes no sense!!! lol  but we have had many laughs over this

Great topic! @YadaYadaYada

"Paperback Writer" by the Beatles. My DH, as a kid, thought it was, "Take the back right road."

Correct lyrics: "Paperback writer."

"Lucille" by Kenny Rogers. As a kid, the song played on a radio (I had never heard it before) and I thought it was "...four hundred children and a crop in the field." :???: I could not understand how someone would have 400 children. It so distracted me. I thought maybe the song was about an orphanage or something. LOL!

Correct lyrics: "...four hungry children and a crop in the field"

Love this thread. There are so many but Tyga's "Taste" comes to mind right now:
For years, I've been wanting to know what "Innercity lemonade" is - and even asked my son!

Correct lyrics: "In the city love my name"

And I too thought Taylor Swift was singing about Starbucks lovers - just assumed it was some paid branding in the song :lol-2:

Credence Clearwater revival:

Actual lyrics: “bad moon on the rise”

As almost everybody hears it: “bathroom on the right”

And I’m surprised nobody has referred to these as “mondegreens “, which I think is a great word.

I grew up singing Billy Ocean's 'When the going gets tough'.

Although, I thought it was 'well you can go and get stuffed'.

The weather girls' "it's raining men"

by a good Italian friend of ours while living in Dublin. He always ran to the dancefloor for that song super enthusiastically. After he had gotten hit on by a few guys his best buddy, who was American, told him it was a " gay anthem"(his words) - just so he knew because we all gathered there might be some cultural gap.

He thought it was "it's a rainy day"and so it was his personal theme song for his year in Ireland.
