I'm trying to kick my coffee habit.

Well, correction, last week I was sternly advised to quit due to low blood pressure and slight iron deficiency.

I've been drinking a 16oz cup every morning and afternoon, and multiple cups of black tea in the intervening hours for - well, it's been at least six years now...

It's headache season these days

. I honestly never gave it a thought, and now when I don't get it anymore - goodness, it's not pleasant!

FI is happily asleep with the cats and I'm on PS 'cause I can't sleep and I'm feeling sorry for myself

ETA: apparently my thermos is 24oz, not 16. Oops.

I''m a huge coffee drinker. Having to give up? Oh dear! Did you cut back or give up all together?

Cold turkey, baby!

The coffee, anyway

I love coffee and have a hard time drinking just one cup but boy my kidneys ache something fierce and all of my levels go wonky when I do - I''ve done the head in the sand thing occasionally but my body always feels like I''ve had strychnine and I tell myself never again. I went over a month before the last one and that was a week ago and again I say never again.

I am bummed bad too :*(

Do you have to quit cold turkey?? Maybe do it slowly-- like a taper? Since your morning jug was 24- why not do 12 for a week... then 6 for a few weeks.. and then every other day... and then maybe once a week... trust me, it won''t hurt as bad if you do.

But, it really takes guts to go cold turkey! I''m not a coffee drinker (just, coffee drinks every now and then) and I worry that FI is getting addicted to energy drinks

We have a rule that he gets them when he works overtime at work and he does a lot of overtime!

Anyway(S!) (hehe)

Good luck!

Cold turkey?! You''re brave! There''s no way I could handle that. How are you dealing with the headaches?

Haha thanks

Slowly and steadily would be the smart way to do it, wouldn't it? We're all out of coffee now, though, and FI doesn't drink it so the plan is to just - not replenish the supply. This has been a long time coming, I confess.

That said... the headaches are really something else

. I never used to get headaches, but lately they're just springing up out of nowhere. That and wacky sleep patterns and strange cravings and I feel cold all the time! It's bizarre, and I'm sure a good amount is psychological since whining seems to alleviate it

yssie, welcome to the world of decaf! I had to give up cold turkey as well when they found the hole in my heart. That was terrible news for me because I was such a coffee hound. But now I strictly drink decaf and I have to say I have gotten used to the taste. I feel for you, I really do!

what about mixing decaf and caff 1/2way to start and then taper down from there. even decaf has a little caff so you could wean yourself down to decaf to get some caff from it. and depending on the brand you get, honestly i do not necessarily always taste a diff...peets is one of the best for decaf tasting most like regular.

what a bummer though!! i drank my one morning cup of coffee all through preg, going totally without would have not been fun for ANYONE. but caff is really not that good for us in general, i drink water the rest of the day typically.

i do admit to loving the black tea too.

Ugh this so brings back memories of when I quit smoking. I was certainly not pleasant to be around when I got my cravings lol, give my regards to your husband haha

I''m completely addicted to coffee. I''m not a fan of American coffee but I love Cuban and Colombian coffee.

I chose to give it up during my pregnancy. I''m not the kind of person that can have one morning cup of coffee and be satisfied for the rest of the day. I usually had a cup in the morning, one on the way in to work, two "shots" of cuban coffee (which has 80-100mg of caffeine ea, not to mention a whole bunch of sugar) in the afternoon, and another cup depending on whether I was working late or not.

It''s not that hard once you give it up. The headaches go away, just make sure you are drinking a lot of water.

I don''t drink coffee at all, but my husband loves it. He takes breaks periodically though and says that usually the headaches go away after about 5 days.. so just hang in until then !

So sorry Yssie

As a fellow coffee addict, I sympathize!

FI just told me he got me some Double Dark decaf from trader joe's... let's hope it tastes like the real thing! Their beans are fantastic
