I''ve been reading the forum for two months now, and just started actively shopping for an engagement ring. Although I''m very comfortable buying off the internet, I really believe that you have to see a diamond before you buy it, and find a seller you can trust.

I began my search on 47th Street and unfortunately started from the 6th Avenue end. After an hour I was really put off, until I got closer to 5th and escaped the "pressure cooker".

The store that really impressed me with their great staff, selection and designs was Mimi So. I found a couple of other postings here singing her praises.

Today I found out that co-worker bought several items there, and he told me that Mimi So was part of Cartier. He said that they buy diamonds together but with her less expensive location and no advertising Mimi So sells the same quality for a fraction of the price.

Does anyone know if this is true, or any more about Mimi So? The website is very cool with lots of clips of her celebrity clients.

Their prices seemed to be in line with or better than the neighbors on 47th street, but the stones were consistently excellent. Also, I never got the funny feeling that I might get swindled. Or was it just the cute sales girl!?

Hi,

They are not part of Cartier or LVMH group. Forget the looks ask the questions that get you the information you are looking for.

Of course just AFTER posting I got the clever idea to ask Google:

Seems like the company that owns Cartier, Piaget and Van Cleef & Arpels (Richemont) owns a part of Mimi So - which is a lot bigger than the first impression I got at the tiny boutique.

I don''t know if LVMH is related...?

I went back yesterday and think I found a winner. They sent me a photo, the diamond for me is 2.2 carats E color, VS, "ideal" proportions, with a GIA certificate.
Opinions?
