I was thinking about getting a microscope or loupe to examine the loose diamond and future diamonds I will purchase.

Do you need an expensive jewelry microscope in order to examine diamonds and rings? Will a $100 diamond from a science store work? I know it won''t be ideal.

Or should I just get a loupe? How much magnification can you get out of a loupe? Would this be enough to fully identifly my diamonds?

I would have thought a loupe would more than be enough to look at your diamonds and to identify them.

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/using-a-loupe.28299/= this topic will give you advice on how to use a loupe correctly.

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/buying-a-loupe.28505/= also this one.

Apparently you can get loupes in x10, 20, 30 and x40 so you have some to choose from. I don't know if a microscope would serve you any better for what you want, if you just need something for ID purposes, I would rather put the money a scope costs towards MORE DIAMONDS

but if you think it is something you would get the benefit from the choice is yours.

A loupe should work great. They most often come in 10x and 20x. Plus they are more portable than a microscope. I got mine from Kassoy:

The diamond I''m looking is a VVS1. Will a loupe be able to identify this clear of a diamond?

Depends on how good you are with the loupe. A VVS is usually difficult for an experienced person to see inclusions with a 10x. I would get a 20x, then you should be able to spot your inclusion(s).

Check out eBay. I bought a 30X loupe for a great price.

Can you send me the listing details. Model, seller, etc...

I have been looking on ebay and there are tons. I don''t want to get a junk one.
