Sorry,

I don't where to post this.

I need a microscope that's inexpensive and that's going to help me show laser inscriptions on T & Co, GIA diamond rings.

I have found this one and was wondering if anyone could comment on its suitability. I can't work out whether there'd be enough room to put a ring under the lens, standing up.

I wondered if anyone else uses a microscope like this?

Thanks

I can see it's going to be tricky!

Standing the ring up is key as is magnification. The hand held ones are no more powerful than a powerful loupe!

The one I looked at said 60-100x.

My most powerful loupe (I'm sure there is higher) is 30x.

This article says you should be able to read them at 20X...I can see mine at 30x but cant read it.

I took some earrings to a jeweler because I couldn't read the inscriptions at 30X. It took 40X to read them, and even then one of the inscriptions was difficult to read.

If you're only concerned about this one piece, you might be better off just taking it to a local jeweler for help. I'd take it to a family owned, higher-end operation rather than a chain store. Many of the sales people at chain stores are just that - they're trained in sales, and might not be willing or able to help you with this sort of request.
