Hi everyone, yes, I''m still lurking out there - reading all the posts, looking at all of the fabulous lovelies that everyone''s receiving - and as always, I''m continuously impressed with the knowledge of this group.
So, I''d like to pick at that knowledge for a moment, please.
I know I have extremely sensitive ears and skin in general. I cannot wear any earrings that unless the posts are rhodium or surgical steel, if I wear white gold, yellow gold or silver, my ears swell and blister at the openingings and become extremely itchy and soar - almost like poison ivy.
I have NEVER had this issue with rings, bracelets, necklaces - but perhaps it was only time?
I have a 14k white gold band for my engagement ring - this band causes no trouble for me - the white gold is extremely white, there''s no yellow to it at all.
I also have 2 white gold bead set diamond bands that I wear above and below the engagement ring. These are purchased from a different jeweler. They are 18k white gold. When I received these 2 bands I had noticed shortly after wearing them (maybe within 4-6 weeks) that they had a slightly yellowish look compared to the engagement ring band. But, I never thought anything of it. It is now 8 months after purchasing these bands and wearing them daily, and suddenly I am having the most extreme reaction to the rings.
My finger reacts the way my ears do if I wear anything other than rhodium or surgical steel. My finger gets swollen, bright red, blisters, and gets extremely painful - in a perfect band above and below my engagement ring, but where my engagement ring is there is no reaction. If I remove the rings for a week, the two bands of irritation heals up and I''m fine, if i put the bands back on (engagement ring remains on every day regardless) within 2 - 3 hours it starts all over again, burning, swelling, blistering, reddness, etc... remove, heal... repeat.
What could possibily be causing this? Should I have the rings plated with rhodium? Palladium?
