As you all know, this post (https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/prayers-needed.49516/) related the events leading up to the sad passing of my uncle Brian recently. I cannot thank you enough for the expressions of comfort and supportive prayers that came from this group during this sad time. The funeral was yesterday and it was a heartbreaking, moving event. All five of my cousins, ages 24 through 12, helped cover his casket before the service, and the three boys were pallbearers for him. My mother wrote a beautiful piece about Brian, her little brother and hero, to be read at the service. My brother and I presented the gifts for the Eucharist and participated in a celebration of our uncle''s life as all of Brian''s nieces and nephews came up to recite a word and definition that represented him (ardent, faithful, humble, courageous, and so on). So many stunning flowers came to the funeral home, many of them in bright yellows so similar to the Livestrong bracelets that my uncle and his family wore throughout his treatments. I helped my mother gather flowers from the arrangements sent to the cemetery to be dried and preserved, and we helped Brian''s children scatter petals over his casket after it was lowered. It was an incredibly hard day for me and for all of my family, but the outpouring of strength and support from everyone kept us together.

Brian would have been so proud of all that went on in the days following his passing, and I believe that he has been showing us his love and appreciation in many subtle ways. I truly feel that he has been giving us signs of hope and faith when we need it most, signs that cannot possibly be explained as mere coincidence. He was a twin and is now reunited with his brother after many years, and in the past week, my mother has been seeing twin baby boys everywhere she goes. Brian was a big fan of the band Yes, and the radio station we have been listening to on the drive back and forth to Midland all week has been playing Yes in unusually heavy rotation. Perhaps the most beautiful sign of them all is the one I would like to show you now...

Brian and Joan were middle school sweethearts and were married for 27 years. His passing was, is, and will be extremely difficult for my aunt to bear, and he gave her a message of love yesterday to comfort her and let her know he is alright. At the cemetery following the service, my aunt wanted to save a rose from the arrangement on top of his casket. She walked over and plucked a single yellow rose at random from the flowers, and when she glanced down at it a few moments later, she found an amazing surprise. The yellow rose she had picked was a double bloom, two buds blossoming together as one. Joan was incredibly moved by this, and said that she had been wondering if she would hear from Brian somehow. This rose was his message to her to comfort her and let her know that he is okay. It was such a blessing for all of us, and especially my aunt, to see this sign of hope.

My aunt carried it with her all day and then gave this double bloom rose to my mother to preserve for her, and I was able to capture it on film in all its beauty before it went into the drying compound. I am proud to present to you this picture of Brian''s rose, along with the message of love it carries. Thank you all again so much for everything.
