Hey PSers,

I need your honest advice on a men''s ring I am designing with the help of WF. Ultimately, I need to make a decision whether or not to go ahead with the ring. Please offer any feedback you have.

The ring will be a RHR made of 18K Yellow Gold. The center stone is a .78 EC (5.6mm X 4.8mm), bezel set East-to-West. The sides will be Princess measuring 4.1mm square, bezel set. The shank will taper from 8.5mm to 7mm.

The inspiration for the ring is the pic below. My next post will have a drawing of my design. Thanks!

I like the design a lot, but I would prefer asscher (or square emerald cut) side stones instead of the princess stones... but I will admit that I am not a fan of small princess stones.

Out of curiosity, how does your design differ from the inspiration ring?

Joe- I really like your design, but i'm not too crazy about princess on the side with step cut center (and I'm a big princess fan with rounds though) but I'm really not quite sure what I would replace though, so not much help, but I still like the overall design and look if there is no other side stone options.

I agree, I would prefer the side stones to be asschers as opposed to princess cuts.

Agreed. Cool concept, but I''d like it better with all step cuts.

Thanks everyone for the feedback so far.

My design is slightly different in that the width of the shank is greater than the width of the EC. Also, there will be some tapering that is different from the inspiration ring.

What are your experiences with step cuts around around 4mm in width? Thanks again :)

I hate to sound like a broken record but I also think princess side stone clash with the center emerald cut.
I thought this immediately, even before reading any replies.

Side asschers would look perfect.

Hello Joe, here''s a very amateur mock up showing both princess and step cut sides.

Tony,

Thanks for the quick mock up.

It seems the everyone is recommending going with step cuts for the sides rather than the princesses.

I''ll have to chew on this for awhile....

stunning design but the princess stone''s facet patterns "fight" with or compete with the geometry of the emerald cut.

Wow, That''s pretty! or hansome, lol...

OK, after receiving your input and viewing a EC next to a Princess, I agree with your opinions. I would like to have EC side stones.

What are your initial opinions on these two stones? Are they worth further evaluation?

the center stone is STUNNING. my suggestion is to get perfectly square emeralds for the sides.

Yes, Ditto this!!!

It wasn''t the rectangle/square aspect that was throwing off the original concept, it was the facet pattern (emerald/princess). In fact with setting the center e/w I agree that square side stones would be more aesthetically pleasing.

VERY cool design!
