Hi everyone,

I have been busily reading this forum for several weeks, while my husband and I picked out a new wedding band to go with my 6 prong tiffany style engagement ring. After shopping around and reading so many recommendations, we decided to purchase a memoire 7 stone band. It arrived today and it is gorgeous! 7 stones, 1 ctw, platinum setting.

The problem is that, as I feared, my 6 prong e-ring sticks out against the memoire band, and the jeweler is predicting that the two will cause wear over time. So, I am wondering if there are other 6 prong settings that might work better? I know that memoire sets the stones low, and the problem is with my e-ring. I''m not sure if I have the terminology right, but the "basket" on the ring is set really low, and the prongs sit low on the band, not on top.

Anyway, does anyone have a recommendation for a 6 prong solitaire e-ring where the prongs sit on top/higher up on the band? I would really prefer a 6 prong instead of a 4 prong to best protect my diamond. Any thoughts would be appreciated. This board is a wonderful source of information!

M&M,

so glad you like your memoire band. i would love to own one myself someday. as for your e-ring setting. Most 6 prongs settings are going to have the prong that stick out and will hit the band. you might have better success with a peg head type setting that sits on top of the band so the memoire can sit up under the prongs. Honestly though, there have been discussions here that 6 prongs really aren''t all that much safer than 4. many gals here have large stones with 4 prong settings and they have no trouble so I wouldn''t let that be the only reason you wouldn''t consider a 4 prong head. If you opened yourself up to that option you''d have a ton more choices and workable solutions. someone else might have some idea''s for you though on the 6 prong settings...

Thanks, Mrssalvo. I hope I got a good price on the memoire, the salesperson gave me 35% off the retail price. I did email a couple internet dealers and they were around the same, so I decided to go with the local store for ease with cleanings etc.

I posted the specs on my RB diamond out of curiosity last week, and Garry H. had suggested that it may be at risk for chipping because of the crown angle, and to keep it in a 6 prong.

As for your suggestion about a peg style, is this what you mean?

Another one that I like is the Vatche Royal Crown, but it is hard to tell from the pictures on the website how the prongs stick out.

Anyway, thanks for your thoughts! PS is great.

I couldn''t get the link to load to see the excel ring but here''s a pic i found on pricescope. see how the head sits on top of the band? So your wedding band could probably sit next to it without touching the prongs...

preciousjewels has the vatche royal crown and wears it with a WF etenity band. she hasn''t posted in a while so i have no idea if there is any wear issues but it looks gorgeous. I love the royal crown setting. do you have a vatche dealer near you where you can go look?
