Medium Fluorescence in an I color diamond?

What effect will the medium fluorescence have on the appearance of color in the diamond? I've read a handful of threads and arguments and overall it seems the fluorescence should only "add" to the colorless appearance and not enhance the tint.. am I right? Does anyone have pics of an I color with medium fluorescence? The struggle to find a diamond I love in our price range is REAL.

Thanks!

I consider FL in an I color diamond a plus. I would actively seek it if I were buying. The main thing is to be sure the stone is truly I color as they say there is a small amount of UV in the grading lighting and it could make the stone color be overgraded, but that has not really been proven, I don't think. I have had an H stone with strong blue and I loved it! I wish my current I color diamond had it!!! But you won't see medium blue the vast majority of the time unless you spend a lot of time in nightclubs with black lights! :lol:

I just posted exactly that spec here;

GIA I color, SI2 completely eye clean.

There are a couple of finger shots in low light, and you can see the tint coming out. If there was not a contrasting halo (the halo is G colored stones) you probably wouldn't notice the tint.

I don't really notice any effect of the medium blue (make sure it's blue, some are actually brown) fluorescence. I notice a minor effect when I view diamonds with very strong fluorescence, but even that is minimal IMO.

I recommend no EGL stones at all. I was very disappointed in a EGL SI3 that, once it got away from the shiny jewelry store lights, revealed it's clouds. I don't know if you're considering EGL, but just wanted to throw that in there, because they tend to be less expensive.

BTW you won't see twinning wisps with the naked eye. I also have a feather and an indented natural but they are all hidden in the facet pattern, so I can't see a thing. Table is clean except for twinning wisps.

Ahh! Perfect, thank you!
And yes, I've been cautioned against EGL by several people. "Saving" money isn't a goal, spending money wisely is the focus - so thank you, this is a huge help!

You're welcome! :wavey: A couple of the shots are outside, and if there were any effects from the fluor you would be seeing them in those pics. Honestly, I was hoping to see something, I just plain don't. The last hand shot is inside in incandescent light, that's when the tint comes out.

If it were me, I would go for a G, eye clean SI2, rather than an I VS. Unless you're going for an emerald or asscher, then it's VS all the way.

Happy hunting! :appl:

Well as one with an I VS1, I will have to offer a differing opinion. :)) Regardless of what the color is, I like VS1-VS2 for clarity, especially for a ring. Some SI2 stones have clarity issues that can affect brilliance, so you do have to be careful. Plus, they are not all eyeclean from top and sides. I color in a well cut round is really white outdoors in natural light and can pick up environmental tint especially indoors, as iLander mentioned.

But back to your question, if you are finding lower prices due to FL, I would call that a bonus!
