Hello everyone,

I''m new to this board, and I’m looking some advice on this diamond I’m considering. The diamond has some tremendous pluses. But there is one downside (I think); it has a medium blue florescent. The stone scored a .8 on the HCA scale, and an "excellent" in the firey category. My question is this, how do the florescent affect this stone? I''ve read that it can make the rock appear oily, or foggy...does this have with a medium blue florescent also? I''m basically looking for a great value stone...so I’ve provided some picture of the GIA report below, and the stones sarin stats.

Shape: Round
Carat: 1.01
Color: H
Clarity: SI2
Depth: 60.5
Table: 57
Crown angle: 33.7

May make it appear whiter in lighting with a UV component, e.g., sunlight.

More importantly, make sure it's eye clean.

Fluor is definitely discounted by trade, so the stone should be cheaper but its not a bad thing at all!

Some strong blue fluor can make stone appear oily or foggy but that is ONLY strong blue and ONLY very rarely. Med blue in an H color is a HUGE plus in my opinion! It may face up more like a G or similar and also will give off a cool hue in certain lightings!

In my opinion, if the price is right, the stone is eye-clean..the numbers look lovely and the HCA is great. Can you see an image of the stone or an idealscope image?

I love it! H SI2 is my absolute FAVE sweet spot if you can find an eye-clean one....huge savings and bigger carat weight size...and add med fluor to that? A winner. Good luck!

The oily or hazy effect should only happen with very strong fluorescence; you'll be fine with medium blue fluor. If anything, the medium blue will just make the stone appear whiter. I have a D colored stone with medium blue flour and there is no haziness or oiliness, even in direct sunlight. My appraiser said it looked whiter than a regular D. I will only buy stones with blue flour in the future. Do not let the fluor deter you from an otherwise excellent stone (whichever stone you choose), but do make sure an SI2 is eye clean. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies!

As for price, I was quoted between $3200-3300, depending on method of payment.

Also, as you can see, the Sarin numbers differ slightly from the GIA report...is this normal?

I would not worry about the medium blue in this situation.H color diamonds are sometimes enhanced with a either faint or medium blue. The market discounts strong blue diamonds. My concern in your diamond is that the imperfection is not seen with the naked eye. If you feel comfortable with the imperfection I would not hesitate in purchasing .

Unless it's excessive, it shouldn't affect the diamond's beauty. the others are right when they say make sure it is eye-clean and the cut is good. Actually, I have a lot of stones with slight to medium flour and they sparkle like mad. I actually prefer flourescence in G, H and I stones, and seek it out.

Well the diamond is from whiteflash.com. I am told that it is eye clean, and their website has the cut listed as ideal. So with that, how good is the price I have listed above?

Here's some quick stats among the 100 odd GIA, H-SI2 1carates quoted here:

Lowest price = 3201
Highest price = 4534
H&A average: = 4500

This stone has as good overall light return as one of the 'ideals' while most likely taking some hit on smmetry - not a serious affair, if one chooses to think that a diamond's cut is simply meant to make the stone play with light, nothing more, nothing less.

The full range of 40% price variation includes stones with less guarantee of light return than yours. About 50% of stones cut with these table and depth and whatever crown and pavilion angles would made the HCA cut (observation based on the HCA chart) Good enough? I would think so.

medium blue florescent

Really in the real world we live in its only a plus.

It makes the diamond look whiter!

You get the old stories of how bad it is because it threw the graders eyes off and they over graded the diamond.

Well, with filters to view the diamonds now a days ,that does not happen. Its old news your hearing.

The stone sounds fabulous if it is eye clean & the feathers are stable.

Your numbers dont match the GIA cert ? copied down wrong

Are you sure you got the right GIA report and the right Sarin #?

Iceman,

Yes, i'm sure the numbers I put down are right...i just assumed that the sarin machine numbers differ sometimes from the GIA report. That's not the case? In any event, here's the sarin report I was sent for the diamond. Reason to be alarmed?

yes its not unusual for gia and sarin to be slightly off. also gia rounds the table, so if they thought table was 57.6 then they'd say 58. so that is sometimes why the tables are off 1% or similar. the depth is spot on as is diameter..i wouldn't worry about the differences, but if you are concerned, ask brian at whiteflash about it.
