Since there is a thread for law students on PS, thought it was only appropriate to start a medical one! Soon to be fourth year here gearing up for Step 2/Residency Applications/General 4th Year Chaos ... in addition to getting engaged, moving into a new house, attempting to plan a destination wedding (I swear I''m ready to elope in Vegas already). I''m an amateur jewelry aficionado who loves PS, great procrastination tool although my love for bling sometimes get me in trouble, my attending yesterday saw me wearing Tiffany bangles, whoops! Say hello and introduce yourselves so we can commiserate and celebrate the joys of graduate medical training :)

Hello! I''m no medical student, but my dh graduated med. school last year and is about to complete his intern year. He is also in the Navy, so after this he puts residency on hold and will be doing flight surgery for the next ~4 years, and then will most likely be done with his Navy obligation and go through the match process again and do a civilian residency.

We got married in between the 3rd and 4th year of med. school and it was a bit crazy to say the least!

So I am not a medical student or resident any more, but I graduated less than a year ago. I am kind of in the weird new attending stage of life and getting married in 4 months.

4th year was crazy, but I will always look back on it with some great memories.

If you want this to be a place for students/residents only, that is fine. I thought I would just say hi.

Welcome Ltlfirecracker and congrats on your recent transition to attending status! You're certainly welcome on the thread, didn't mean to discriminate. Maybe at some point in the future I'll look back on 4th year and smile but right now I'm dreading it. I really really want to do my medicine residency at my home institution (great program, locale is lovely and affordable, FI's job is here, huge center for what I want to do my fellowship in and have already made a lot of connections in the department. etc etc!) so the match is scary for me. If I could have an offer right now I wouldn't even interview at other programs. Plus I just received my 4th year schedule (we operate with a lottery based system) and found out my Sub-I is in November, too late for grades to be included in applications, etc. Further, they don't give preference to do those applying in medicine so derm, rads people are scheduled earlier than me. I do understand that the grades are important for them as well but still arghhhh, sorry this is turning into a rant, so welcome!

Well I''m finishing my first year of residency and all I can say is THANK GOD. It was such a big change. Especially with all of the freaking responsibilities they give us in my program. And unlike many programs, the staff is pretty darn unapproachable. And there were times when my senior resident on call was of no help. I can''t tell you the amount of nights I spent in from of the heart monitor and thinking "please stay stable. please stay stable." Terrifying. At least as an R2, I''ll have a little more experience.
