Measurements?

I just purchased a stone that is 2.01 carat, good cut, polish and symmetry.

its measurements are:

8.02 x 8.07 x 4.78

Table: 62%
Depth %: 59.4%
Crown Angle: 32%
Pavillion Angle: 40%
Star: 50%
Lower Half: 75%
Very thin to very thick Girtle, Faceted
No Culet

Can someone tell me about why this stone is classified as a good cut? Is the stone cut shallow?

Also, it has a great deal of fire for a "good" cut, why is this the case?

The diamond is a shallow combination, are you thinking of returning it? The HCA cautions that a fish eye effect could be seen when the diamond is tilted, so I would check carefully for that. You can get a diamond with more balanced proportions certainly, as to a great deal of fire, have you seen many other diamonds to compare to? The main thing of course is if you love this diamond, but you can do better judging by the info given. How much did you pay for the diamond if you don't mind me asking, and did you buy it from a jeweller or online? If you decide to return it, we would be pleased to help you and perhaps suggest some diamonds you might like.

Also the cut grades such as Good and Excellent can be broad, so you need to evaluate each diamond on it's own proportions.

I bought the J color/VS2 for $11,750 (GIA cert). But the color looks at least I. It doesn't generally have a fisheye effect when I tilted it, though i thought i noticed it one time. I bought the stone from a wholesaler out of Atlanta. I have seen 50+ stones and i thought it had a good deal of fire. Did I get a good deal?

Actually this one has come up a lot recently, but if someone sells to the public, they are a retailer, not a wholesaler. I did a quick search using the tool above, for similar diamonds it appears your price is in the ball park. Usually diamonds with a steeper crown angle rather than a shallow one and also a smaller table, can lend themselves to a bit of extra fire, from the proportions of yours, I would expect it to be more of a brilliant stone, than a fiery one. Have you actually seen well cut diamonds like AGS0 and some GIA Excellent to compare?

I have seen many excellent cut stones and I won''t pretend to say that my stone and an excellent stone are equal (in terms of fire and brilliance). But, I am pleased with the fire/brilliance for the money. I priced similar stones between $12,800-14,500 on online distributors and the stone prices for $15,500+ retail in my area. I began this search thinking I wanted to get a smaller stone with higher color and clarity, but she wanted the larger stone. I plan to set it in a pave setting (with G-I color stones), and I hope it looks good. I guess we will see.
