Hi,

I have a question. I always thought that a 0.71ct is smaller than a 0.72ct. However, when I compare their certificate side by side, I found this:

0.71ct has 5.79-5.82 x 3.52 mm
0.72ct has 5.74-5.79 x 3.55 mm

Can anyone explain this?

Thank you!!!

.71 and .72 ct. are the weight. The dimensions are totally different. Some stones are cut more deeply, and they may face up smaller (diameter). That''s why when you are looking at stones, you always look at all the measurements. You will get a better diameter in a well-cut round stone usually if you stick to 60-62% depth. Obviously other measurements such as crown and pavilion angles are necessary to determine the overall cut quality, but I eliminate stones that are too deep since I want the stone to look the size it should be for it''s weight.

As you can see, the depth is slightly deeper for the 2nd stone, so face-up area is reduced.

So, how do I know the suppose-to-be measurement for a 0.71ct?

Ok. Here is excerpt from the certificate. Please give me your opinion on this stone. Thanks!

I would say about 5.75mm is ideal. Use the pricescope you diamond link above or this link and search using the in-house button. The listing will show a column, spread, which represent how much the stone''s face-up dimension differs from the ideal. A 0.71c will have a spread of 0% when it''s diameter is at 5.75mm.

Nice stone, better than the average ideal spread.

I am sorry, I am very new at this. Can you please elaborate what "Nice stone" meaning?

Yes, AGS0 (Ideal cut) means it is an excellent stone. Just ask and make sure the stone is eye clean from the top and sides.

Here is the HCA Score for it. Think I finally find the one. Should I worry about the very good score on scintillation? Thanks!!!

Thank you for all your responses. I truly need this. It is my first purchase and I am quite nervous about it. So far, I think this diamond has all 4 C''s that is affordable for me. Will check with vendor about the eye clean. I also posts the HCA score if you can please see that as well. All comments are very welcome.

The HCA is not used for selection but rejection, so don't worry about scintillation scores etc, the HCA can't see the diamond to accurately predict this.

The diamond should be lovely Joelly!

Thank you for your response, Lorelei. What kind of question should I ask the vendor to make sure that it is eye clean? Just to make sure I am being effective in asking the question so vendor will know what I am looking for.

Let them know exactly what your expectations are - for example if you don''t want to see any visible inclusions at close scrutiny from any angle, then make sure you make this clear so you are both on the same page.

And you are very welcome!
