2.36ct, med blue flouro, J, faces up white, good HCA score, one inclusion that can be covered with a prong. Very well priced at $16,450 with pricescope discount. Big at 8.55mm.

No time to order an idealscope, they are backed up more than a week (I need time to prep for a setting) so I was going to order it sight unseen and hope for the best. Thoughts? It is on hold for me at the moment....so I have a day to decide.

I had an inspection done for that other diamond I was considering, the really well cut but well included Si2 AGS Ideal. They loved it, said inclusions were eye clean, and performance was close to as good as it gets. This other 2.36ct options gets me another .15mm, fewer inclusions, for another $1,000.

Would you pull the trigger on this sight unseen (I can always return it if necessary....)?

I'm not so sure about that dark ring in the middle...

(for comparison in the same light, not a diamond I can afford, not considering this one): This one is an AGS ideal stone, it doesn't have quite as much of a dark ring, that is an issue? What would cause that, assuming the angles are very good, and symmetry seems to be very good (based on the picture)?

I should say I have other options....here is another 2.36ct J, strong blue Flourescence, but not great pics to start off with. Same size as the other, slightly less $. 61/57, scored 1.4 on the HCA, below are pics. Gotta pay and get it delivered to the broker before I can get any better images and an idealscope/ASET.

Hi OP, I like the sound of the one you're considering passing up. The gemologist review said it performs almost as good as it gets and it's $1000 less expensive but also 0.15 mm less in diameter and eye clean (while the larger one you are considering has a prongable inclusion). Is the other one still available? If not, this one seems like a possible contender indeed. However, didn't you say you had time to shop? Why not wait the week to get the reflector image and gemological review. They can pull a couple others to compare for you and help you select the best option.

Hi,

The other one is available, they sent me an idealscope earlier! I posted it in another thread. It is "eye clean" (although Si2, with some twinning wisps and feathers). Unfortunately, I wasted my inspection on 2 other diamonds they suggested were better than the 8.4mm; both scored 2.4 on HCA, both had a lot of light leakage, so now I am on my own. Wish I hadn't listened to them, both looked good in the pics, but the HCA score didn't lie in the end. I could have done better with my inspection, instead of throwing away at the insistence of the salesperson.

I bumped up my timing, fiance travels a bunch, she is going overseas again in a month, want to move forward if I can now with a "real" ring for her. Something to remind her of me while she is lonely :)

Here is the idealscope of the one that they loved:

And the 2 that scored 2.4 on the HCA (in case anyone was wondering). Both weren't terrible, but not great in comparison.

Definitely do not like the ones in the last post. I kind of think I might try this J VS1 at the same diameter for close to the same price:

I think the still shot looks better in this one than the one in the top post.

You linked to a page of settings: was it supposed to be something else? I haven't thought about the setting yet

Here is another idealscope that was forwarded to me as a candidate. It is smaller at 8.30mm, about $2k cheaper though. HCA 1.9. Angles at 59.4/61/32.5/40.8, HCA=1.9

The inclusion is pretty big to show up in the ideal scope. Also it's close to a 60% table. Read up on 60/60 diamonds

OK, so I am going to pull the trigger on the one I was "passing up". Sure, there are a lot of transparent inclusions. But, they confirmed it as eye clean from 10", a very brilliant diamond (AGS Ideal rating), perfect idealscope (only flaws were from the inclusions), and also borderline I (was rated as J). I used the JA tool to zoom out approximately to 10", and I can't see any inclusions. Sure, i could go ask a bunch of brokers to see if I could potentially get something in those angles, AGS ideal, 8.4mm, eye clean, borderline I, for $15k, but I could just as likely get something scoring AGS cut grade 1, good but not this good.

In the end, the inclusions shouldn't bother me. If JA says it is eye clean, I am not going to worry too much about it. It is big and bright! And I can return it of course!
