Maximum width huggies for pearl drops???

What do you think would be the widest a huggie earring could be (face on) to accommodate a pearl drop and look good? I have found some very pretty pave ones at 3.7mm wide (0.5 inch length)... would appreciate any views on whether this would be too wide?!!
