So I''m looking at getting some bigger diamonds for stud earrings. I have found a couple of options, but I wanted the opinions of the experts. My favorite stones are .73 and .75 carats, 5.80x5.82x3.52mm and 5.84x5.88x3.58mm. The angles, color, clarity, and everything else about the stones are nearly identical, the only real difference is the slight size difference. They also both have strong blue fluorescence which is why I like them. I have found a third diamond which is a near match to the .72, but it doesn''t have fluorescence.

So, what would you do? Buy the 2 strong blue fluor diamonds - would I really see a difference in the sizes? Or should I go with a pair that has near identical sizes, but one stone has blue fluor and one doesn''t?

Thanks for your thoughts!

buy the strong fluor set. Once mounted, it will be very difficult to see the difference in size unless you are comparing them side by side.

I can't believe anyone would see .05mm difference in size, even side by side, much less on either ear. Since everything else is a close match, it sounds like a good set.

Most ready-made (off the shelf) sets of earrings will have at least as much size variation as the stones you're looking at. But even if the difference was noticeable when the stones were side-by-side, it will not be noticeable when in opposite ears.

I would not pair a medium, strong or very strong fluor stone with a non-fluor or slight-fluor stone because in sunshine, you will have one lilac and one colourless.

Ditto, or if you are in an environment with uv light e.g. disco, others will see one fluorescence and one not!

Stone-cold, jet2ks, FB, and megeve - thank you for your thoughts. I''m leaning towards the fluor set mainly because I think fluor stones are really cool. I didn''t think I would be able to tell much size difference, but I appreciate your reassurance.

Check the table sizes are similar of your pair.

They are 56 and 57...do you think that is close enough?

Yes thats great, thanks Jill! Diameter and table are two important considerations when matching diamonds for earrings.
