Matched Pairs Search vs. Direct Vendor Contact?

Hi All,

Forgive me if this has been asked and answered elsewhere--I am in the process of looking for some diamond studs (1.0-1.5 tcw). It seems as if a number of users recommend contacting the vendor directly with specifications of budget, cut/clarity/color, etc. I am curious to know if those of you who have purchased from WF, BGD, IDJ, et. al used the "matched pair" search function as well as contacting the vendors directly? Did the vendor come back with "better" options than the online search?

TIA

I used WF and choose matched pairs but they came back with another diamond pair they liked better. Definitely call the vendor and tell them what you are looking for.

For vendors like WF, BG, and Good Old Gold, you don't need a matched pair function or to ask them. I easily match pairs by looking at their available stones. I am about to leave for awhile, but I'd be happy to match some pairs for you later today! I don't always like the computer matched pairs as well as the ones I match myself, to be honest!

IDJ is if you aren't concerned about great cut quality and just want the least expensive studs possible within GIA Ex. In that case you have to call them and tell them your budget and specs and they will find stones and call them in.

I used the matched pairs search on BGD for my studs & confirmed everything over email. Extremely happy with my diamonds & the entire process.

Hi Diamondseeker06,

Sorry for the delay--I have a newborn which is keeping things pretty busy around my house these days. Any assistance in selecting a pair would be greatly appreciated. Here are the parameters for my search:

Budget: under 5k inc. setting- (most likely 8 prong setting in WG)
Color: I or above (my e-ring and pendant are H VS2)
Clarity: no pref. as long as eye clean
Size: the bigger the better
Upgradeable: Yes

TIA
