Very interesting article @missy. It totally makes sense to be able to detect Covid before people have symptoms and are out and about potentially infecting others.

Did you read about dogs being trained to detect Covid in people, I can’t find the article ATM, but makes sense as they can detect cancers in people?

Well that's pretty cool.

I have made a flight reservation to go see my grandma next month. Got an email for a cheap ticket and it seems Delta is holding all middle seats empty until January 6th. I am a little nervous about flying but she is 99 and I haven't seen her since June 2019. She's going blind and has been complaining about me not getting to her before she completely loses her sight. Talked it over with my mom and we all feel it is worth the risk because I don't know when I would get there again. I wish this mess was over.

Hi,

I am impressed with the Hospital that I go to and a Dr's office that I attended last week. The elevators are marked for distancing. The corridors are marked at 6 ft intervals.. Best of all the seats were also marked. Masks of course were required. Every person who came in looked to sit as far as possible from the next person. In the testing room, they wiped everything except the floor.

I was afraid to go. but tomorrow will be 8 days and no symptoms. I do believe in masks and distancing. Keep Well, Everyone.

Red--keep the mask on, do social distancing. I think it works pretty well.

Unfortunately it is 1.not mandatory and 2. even if one tests positive one will be allowed to board.

We all know there are some people who are selfish and if they do get tested and are positive they will still board the plane.

At the moment, its a start. because of noncompliance at the highest levels of our federal goverment....fill in the blanks there. Land air and see will have this issue (but of course!)

@redwood66 have a great visit, when you go. We do what we must and I certainly hope is there will be a bit better handle on things by the time you go.

Thanks. Masks are required but I wear one in public anyway.

In this week's edition of the Covid Q&A, we look at how to choose the right mask. In hopes of making this very confusing time just a little less so, each week Bloomberg Prognosis is picking one question sent in by readers and putting it to experts in the field. This week's question comes to us from Robert. He asks:
Can you recommend which KN95 masks to get?
KN95 masks are among the types of medical-grade masks—including surgical and N95 versions—that are far more effective than the cloth masks that have gotten many of us through nearly two years of a pandemic. In August, a study published prior to peer review found that surgical masks were 95% effective at filtering out virus, compared with just 37% for cloth.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revised its mask recommendations to help slow the spread of the highly contagious omicron variant, encouraging wider use of medical-grade products. But as demand for the face coverings has increased, so have counterfeits.

Project N95 is a nonprofit founded to help people get ahold of legitimate medical-grade masks by buying them in bulk and selling them on its own site.
“At this time, the only KN95 from China that Project N95 recommends is manufactured by Powecom,” says Kelly Carothers, the director of government affairs for the non-profit. “Unfortunately, supplies are constrained and we are currently sold out and waiting for information on restocking.”
There’s a bit of confusion surrounding KN95 and N95 masks. The primary difference is the country of origin: KN95s are made in China to meet that country’s regulatory standards, while U.S.-made N95s are considered the gold standard.
But as medical-grade masks have become more popular, the “K” has come to unofficially signify a more consumer-friendly style mask that loops around the ears, rather than wrapping around the back of the head like N95s. While that makes KN95 masks more comfortable, it also means they seal to the face a bit less effectively.
For the time being, N95 masks are still recommended for those in high-risk health-care settings like hospitals. KN95s, on the other hand, are fine for most people’s everyday life.
Some American manufacturers, several of which are approved by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, have begun manufacturing KN95-style masks as well, including Protective Health Gear and Demetech.
“We recommend these products, but only if they are purchased directly from the manufacturer or from our site to ensure they are properly vetted and from a secure supply chain,” Carothers says.
