This week I went to a "Girl's night out" with my mom and sister at a local restaurant, hosted by Mary Kay.

Although the evening was supposed to be about facials and makeovers, our hostesses spent the majority of the evening telling us about how becoming Mary Kay sales girls would be our ticket to "Cadillacs, Diamonds and Luxury-trips".

At the end of the night the sales directors showed us the diamond rings they had gotten as prizes for meeting sales targets : 1ct. worth of frozen-spit pave in an uninspired design. It was exactly as if diamondshark.com worked in gold with slightly more diamonds.

Huh! (and after all the work these women put in to reack their sales goals (or go into debt trying).

Sigh . . . [shaking head].

So...did you sign up as a consultant?

Beau13: Hecks No!

(no disrespect to any Mary Kay ladies out there)

I''m just not a sales gal.

I simply can''t afford to buy $1000 of inventory that I may or may not sell, and I refuse to work a job that isn''t hourly wage or salaried.

Plus, I''ve been to pinktruth.com which gives and interesting (if biased) look at what it could mean to be part of the organization today.

Pricescope has taught me plenty about being a savy consumer, and I pay attention to what folks are and aren''t selling

I was sad that for all the hard work some girls put in, that they don''t get a higher quality reward out of it.

That is sad! I have a couple of friends that have tried to sell Mary Kay..its pretty tough to be successful.

My future mother in law does it. She makes about $30,000 a month doing it, and just got back from a 2 week cruise through Europe. Everything was paid for by Mary Kay. My soon to be fiance is going to take over her business in 5 years when she retires....

I have seen the diamonds they give out...and some, not all, but some are pretty nice for free.

They ain''t free, I promise that - one way or another, you pay for them!! I had a friend who went hook, line, and sinker into MK. I went to one of their "meetings" one time, and it was a little weird. DH sometimes calls refers to it as Mary KKK.

never been to a meeting but I will say this...their MK mens line actually does me well. I like it a lot more than the stuff I buy over the counter.

Mk doesnt have to give out diamonds. Instead of spending say $2000 for the ring they could just pocket it. A seller spent the money either way, so yes you indirectly pay for it, but in the end you still have something other than nothing.

oh and let me say this now...I dont know enough about MK to say or not say things about it and truly debate it. all i do know is that the people I know who sell it seem to like their job...:)
