Marquise Diamond Setting- Stress!!

Hello, everyone! I've been lurking on these forums for quite some time, and I've learned so much from reading through the threads. I know that this would be the best place for me to get some advice regarding my engagement ring!

I have three separate problems.

1) I don't know how to start looking for a jeweler. I live in Toronto, and I don't know of any reputable jewelers who are experienced with intricate settings. I've looked online at Victor Canera, Steven Kirsch, Leon Mege, etc., and I really admire the way that they do custom settings and do micropave work, and I suppose I'd like someone who can do fine, detailed work similar to that- but in Toronto. Not only do I have reservations about not being able to meet the jeweler in person and supervise the creation process (control freak!), but I know that the jewelers mentioned above charge something like 5k just for a setting, which is out of our price range. Does anyone know of any honest, skilled jewelers with reasonable prices in Toronto? I just don't know where to look, and Googling around overwhelms me with the sheer number of choices. Does anyone have personal experience with a Toronto jeweler?

2) I would like a marquise diamond for the center stone. The problem I have with looking on Pricescope is that you so many of the diamonds listed in the search don't show the cut, which is the most important for me. I'd like something that's about a carat, D-G colour, VS2 or VS1 clarity, and with a beautiful, sparkly, cut. The total budget for the ring is about 7k, I don't want my bf to spend more than that, and that's what we've discussed. I suppose I could go around to each individual vendor listed (which I have done), but it's fairly difficult to find the exact diamond I like without it either costing 8k alone, or for it to be not cut quite as well. Where should I sacrifice? Should I go for a lower colour or clarity? Am I searching wrong? How can I find the diamond I'm looking for, for not more than about $4500? Am I crazy?

3) The problem with marquise diamonds is that there isn't a whole lot to choose from on the Internet, as it's not the most popular stone. I'm "feminine," and I don't want something too simple- I was thinking of something like a marquise diamond set in a very delicate, thin rose gold halo with pink sapphires or pink diamonds, and some kind of split shank band. I want something unique, and I remember seeing a picture in one of the threads or a marquise ring with a band that looked kind of like a scroll. I'm also partial to very thin rope shanks, but don't know how to incorporate tiny diamonds into the band for sparkle. Basically, I don't know exactly the type of setting that I'd like- I just know that I may like a pink halo, with micropave work on the prongs and some kind of very delicate, thin, unusual band. Where can I find this? Is this possible with my budget? I'm alright with the gold being 14k, or with the coloured diamonds/gemstones being enhanced, as long as the centre stone is fiery and brilliant!

I'm sorry for the overwhelming amount of information! I really hope you lovely people can point me in the right direction, I would really appreciate it. Thank you very much!

I'd call Good Old Gold and ask them to hunt for a nice marquise. Brightest and biggest for 4.5k, F-H color and SI (eyeclean in clarity) and with a minimal bowtie. You can also call Mark at engagement rings direct. Mark does settings so he can do the ring for you altogether and that might save you money.
