I have a ring that was given to me. The inside of the band is marked with "14k" and the letters "CZ". Does the CZ mean that it is a cubic zirconia or is it the registered Trademark of the maker?

Id suggest you take the ring to someone who can identify the stone. If the stone set in it is CZ, then the marking probably denotes that it is a CZ.

If it is a diamond, then who knows. Someone could have bought a CZ ring, and then later bought a diamond to replace the CZ with.

Gotta have someone look at it who is knowledgeable.

I would bet on the first which is customary, but it could be anything.

In theory, the gold content has to be inscribed (althought it isn''t all the time) and the rest remains up to the maker and owner. As far as I know.
