Marcy, I love reading your posts in HL, and am thrilled that you have a W''sW!

Tell us about your jewelry collection. You have the prettiest pieces.

Skippy, thank you for starting a Who’s Who thread about me.I am so humbled and excited to be included among so many wonderful people on Pricescope.
Lorelei, I appreciate you saying I am an inspiration; that is really something that has become important to me these day.I love your pumpkin on your avatar.
Maisie, the W’sW is very fun to read.
Linda, you are such a sweetie I always enjoy hearing from you.
LadyPirate, thank you for the lovely compliment.
Thanks, Panda.
Lauren, having my own thread makes me feel like an “oldtimer” on PS.
Thanks Kaleigh.I always enjoy reading your posts too.
ChargerGirl, thank you for the kind words about my jewelry.

I am the youngest of 3 girls.I live in Wyoming. My dad worked 2 jobs when we were growing up so we spent a lot of time with our mom.My mom was a stay at home mom and kept us busy with projects, crafts and activities.I can sew, knit, crochet, embroidery and cook.My mom also took us to the library once a week to pick out books to read which quickly led to my love of reading.
My dad is an outdoors guy so we spent the weekends camping, fishing or just traveling somewhere just because it was there.
I am a supervisor and also teach part time at a local community college.
I have been married to Marty for 17 years now.He spoils me rotten and we have a lot of fun together. We are both on the obnoxious side so we tease each other quite a bit and don’t take things too seriously.
Marty and I share the hobby of astronomy. We are a 5 telescope family ranging from a 4” telescope to a 20” telescope.Hauling around such a large scope led to purchasing a 5th wheeler toy hauler to store and haul around our telescopes. We take our camper out to dark sites to camp and go star gazing.
As I am sure many of you know the past few years of my life has been focused around getting healthier.I have lost 163 pounds and try to walk as much as I can for exercise.I started my diet on September 1, 2006 eating 1200 calories a day and worked on reaching small goals one at a time.It quickly became a lifestyle change for me and now I work on maintaining my weight and will probably try to lose a few more pounds.Going from size 5X to size 8-10 has dramatically changed my life and turned me in to a clothes horse.I love shopping for new clothes and Marty doesn’t mind a bit – he’d rather have me healthy plus he gets new things too when we go shopping.
I started my love for jewelry as a young girl by buying cutesy things like a “dice” ring and earrings, ladybug bracelet and cat brooches. My first real piece of jewelry was a birthstone ring in high school.I didn’t like class rings so my mom bought me a birthstone ring.
In college I had a girl friend with an emerald cut aquamarine ring that she would let me borrow and that started my love of colored gemstones and real jewelry. That summer I used some of my summer job earnings to buy my own aquamarine ring.
It would be hard to say what I love more – rings or earrings but I am constantly looking for something new to buy and always try to find matching rings, earrings, bracelets and pendants.I hate to admit it but many of my early pieces were not very good quality; but no worries they have all been sold or given away to make room for new treasures. My favorite gemstones are sapphire, spinel, garnet and tanzanite.
I found Pricescope after buying an ideal cut diamond and upgraded my ering.I was kind of disappointed how dark the diamond looked in the sun – there was lots of fire but not what I expected.I did a search on ideal cut diamonds which led me here and I quickly learned that is the way most well cut diamonds behave in direct sunlight.
I joined the Healthy Living Thread last summer after I’d lost about 100 pounds and have really felt at home with the many wonderful people who participate in that thread.
I have “met” many wonderful people on Pricescope and probably spend more time on here than I should but it’s so much fun.

ETA: the pillow fighting smiley faces as my signature could easily be me and Marty. LOL.

Thanks for sharing, Marcy! I am glad to have met you through the HLT, you have been so kind, encouraging and inspirational, not only to me but everyone on that thread.

I had NO idea you live in Wyoming! For some reason, I kept imagining somewhere else, though I really don''t know where. On a public world wide forum, I often forget that the people can be from all over the place!

That''s so cool that you and Marty love astronomy! When we were kids, my middle brother and I were big astronomy buffs. We subscribed to Discover and used to dig ourselves up in the middle of the night or very early in the morning to stargaze. My brother had a telescope, gosh, I think it was a 5 inch one but we looked at the moon and whatever planets or stars he could focus it on. Whenever I have a moment and look up at the sky, I realize how small we are and how amazing it is that we''re alive in the world that we live.

I always love to hear from people who are in long term happy marriages. It''s great that after 17 years, you and Marty enjoy each other so much. I hope to say the same about my FI on our 17th wedding anniversary. Oh, and I''ll never look at your emotie siggy the same again!

Marcy, I just love reading about you. What a wonderful childhood you had. Sounds like you have wonderful and loving parents.

You know how we are all proud of you for losing the weight too, you are our hero. I didn''t know you had a toy hauler, that is what Rick and I have too. I bet it is so much fun to take your telescopes and look at all the beautiful stars. In Wyoming, they must be gorgeous on a crisp cool night.

What is your next gem stone project going to be?

Wow Marcy! You are my hero! I am overweight and really admire people who take the control and lose weight. I am really struggling to get started. Can you give me any advice or tips? I would really appreciate it.

Marcy, it was nice to read your story. Congrats on losing 163 pounds! Wow, what an accomplishment! Did you lose it on your own, or did you and Marty try losing together? Sounds like you guys have a lot of fun. I''ve always wanted to get into astronomy, but just never have......in fact (sheepish look) I''ve never even looked through a telescope before!

Yay for 163 lb loss! You are so awesome! That is so cool you got your love for sewing from your mom and love of the outdoors from your dad! I love reading about you! What is your favorite music, books, and favorite foods to eat? hehe

YAY Marcyc!! You are awesome!

My in laws live in Wyoming!! It's very beautiful there. We go a few times a year. That's so cool that you live there! Star gazing is phenomenal in Wyoming--yay that you have a telescope!

Very excited to learn more about you! (and more about your beautiful gemstones!)

What's your favorite region in WY? Have you seen that old church in Grand Teton National Park--the one with the mountain view? I went to Grand Teton and Yellowstone for the first time a couple of years ago, and it was spectacular. Do you love the parks?

I forgot to mention yesterday about another hobby I have is photography.I love to take photos of flowers, mountains, lakes, rivers and wildlife.Sadly my digital SLR doesn’t have a macro setting so I am never happy with close up photos of my jewelry or gemstones. All the photos I’ve posted are from my digital point and shoot.I can buy a macro lens for it but every time I price them out they’ve gone up a few hundred dollars and I’d rather buy jewelry than a new lens.Oooh, there’s a surprise, huh?

Panda, the people on the HLT thread are awesome.Everyone is so helpful and supportive.I am so glad you joined us.Thank you for the kind words about me.I am delighted to hear you used to go out and look at the stars and have looked through a telescope.Marty and I get along really well and enjoy life and hanging out with each other.I wish you and your FI many happy years together as well.

Linda, my life has been more good than bad and that’s pretty nice to be able to say that.My parents are pretty neat people; we were always the house where our friends liked to hang out when we were growing up.I still get along with my parents really well now. They live about ½ mile from us so they are close by.My mom is sick but is hanging in there. She has PPH so she is on oxygen at night; she has high blood pressure and has a benign tumor in her ear canal. The tumor has really messed with her balance so she falls a lot.She also has no short term memory but that could be from age, oxygen issues or the tumor.Thank you so much for saying you are proud of me for my weight loss.It means so much to me to know that you share in my excitement.Wyoming does have wonderful, dark skies. That is neat your trailer is a toy hauler too.You know me so well – I am working on 2 projects. One is to remount my heart diamond in a 3 stone ring with sapphires as side stones and the other is to find the gemstone for my original ering. I was looking for a pad but played around with my ring and found I like blues or reds in it so I am looking at a color change sapphire from Natural Sapphire Company for it.

Maisie, thank you so much for the lovely compliment.I weighed more than 320 pounds (probably 20 or more pounds more) when I started.I was so unhealthy I was miserable.I had high blood pressure, heart problems and could barely walk and stand. My motivation was my health.I finally reached a point where I said this is enough; this is stupid if I don’t do something about this I will die.I set small goals and worked on reaching them one day at a time.I bought a diet scale, weigh out all my food and kept a food journal.I ate 1200 calories each day.I do eat every day, normal food which made it easier for me because if I really want to eat something I work it in to my calories.During the week I eat 6 small meals a day and on weekends I usually eat 2 larger meals.Let me know if you want any more ideas or help – I am here for you lady and will help in any way.

Joflier, thank you for the congratulations.I did lose my weight on my own but I inspired a lot of people along the way.Last year they started a biggest loser contest at work where about a dozen or so people got real serious and lost about 40 to 60 pounds. My in-laws came home from Arizona last spring and started a diet after seeing me.They’ve lost about 30 pounds now.Marty started eating less about a year ago and has lost 40 pounds. You should see if there is an astronomy club in your home town and go look through a telescope.Saturn and Jupiter are awesome and getting to see some distant galaxy is incredible.

Thank you so much Skippy.I still find it hard to believe.Today we got in the car after work and I did something automatically and had to laugh.I had on my trench coat and whenever I used to get in the car wearing something that was long I had to pull it out of the door before Marty shut it (I hung over the seat anyway and then the long clothing was hanging out of the car).Anyway I go to pull in my coat and it was on the seat with me.Too funny. My favorite music is popular music from the 80’s.I like Billy Joel, Phil Collins and Air Supply probably the best.I like Clancy novels, Stephen King and science fiction or thrillers.I am very interested in politics any buy a lot of political books but usually lose interest in them and don’t finish them.Favorite foods would have to be warm, homemade cookies, brownies, cheese cake, chicken fingers, pizza, coke, cinnamon rolls, cheeseburgers and chocolate candy.Mmm, is it any wonder I used to wear size 5X clothes? Now I get them occasionally in moderation.

Coati, thank you so much.Yes, I have been to the Tetons and Yellowstone several times and have also visited the church you mentioned. It is gorgeous there, isn’t it?How cool your in-laws live in Wyoming.I do love it here.Yellowstone and Teton are certainly high on my list of beautiful places here, but I like the Sheridan area because of the beautiful green valleys and I like the Rocky Mountains where you can see lots of trees and streams. The skies in Wyoming are awesome because you can drive for 10 minutes out of town and get away from city lights. You mentioned my gemstones.I have a crystal dish that I have loose gemstones in just for fun and decoration.I’ll get them out sometimes and look at them with tweezers which is entertaining in itself – tweezers are not a skill I possess. At one point I wanted to get a ring with every type of faceted stone but I quickly decided there are just some of them I don’t like well enough to wear in jewelry. Now I work towards getting rings I really like.

Well, Marty needs to install some software on my laptop so he can do a program at our astronomy meeting tomorrow. It’s pink by the way so that will be funny watching him carry that around.Tee hee.

This is a before picture and me over the last year.

This was one of my proudest moments. This summer I walked in the Race for the Cure. I am on the left, the girl in the middle is an online friend I met on Sparkpeople and the girl on the right worked with me for years at my former job.

This summer we went to Glacier National Park for a summer vacation. This was us by the helicopter we went for a ride in around the park. It was a BLAST!

Wow - your before and now pictures are just such a testimony! I''m sorry to hear about your mom''s health. My uncle had the same thing with a benign tumor in his ear. He had is removed last summer, as it was continuing to grow. He lost his hearing in that ear, but has regained his balance, and is very happy that he had that done. Is that an option for your mom?

Marcy, I love reading your story! Being a fellow WWTer I know about your weight loss (which is an AMAZING accomplishment!) but you are such an interesting person! Thank you for sharing!

Marcy - your weight loss story is so inspiring! You are so strong!

Tell us some of your favorite things.
I too love photography you''ll have to share more of your shots!

Marcy, so glad to see you have a WW thread!!! I love reading all about you, even though I know you pretty well from HLT''s already...except I totally missed that you did the Race for the Cure this summer!!! Congrats, you are awesome! You remind me of my aunts, they are both into the same things you are as far as crafts and just as sweet and smart, and they both like to give their husbands a hard time but they really have fun marriages. Also, you and I could share clothes now--I wear 8''s and 10''s too. Maybe someday we''ll have to get together for some jewelry window-shopping and clothes swapping! I bet Wyoming is beautiful, I have never been there but maybe someday! Anyway, what a pleasure it has been to make your acquaintance and become your friend here on PS, I can''t wait to hear more about you.

Marcy, I am sorry about your mom; you sound like a really wonderdful daughter!!! I am like you; I don''t live too far from my parents either! I love taking pictures too; I love that you are sharing your pictures. I consider myself lucky to be your friend! Do you watch Anderson Cooper 360? Are you sewing anything right now? I am not; too lazy! hehe What is your favorite place to visit?

Thank you, Joflier.I am still kind of shocked by my before and after photos. The doctor did say removing the ear drum would be an option but my mom didn’t think she wanted to do that.I am delighted to hear it helped your uncle and he is happy he had it done.It has certainly changed her.

DeeJay, thank you for the nice compliment.I would say my life is rarely dull.I always love reading your posts, you are very funny.

Dragonfly, I appreciate you saying my weight loss is inspiring.I really want to help other people realize they can do this too.I will scan some of my favorite photos and load them on here sometime.I forgot to mention I love to photograph the stars. What type of things do you like to photograph? Some of my favorite things are my jewelry, flowers, fleece blankets (I am always cold) and drinking ice water. Some of my favorite things to do are watch movies, be on Pricescope, shop for jewelry or clothes and play games like Scrabble and Hearts.I also love to put together jigsaw puzzles.Snoopy is my all time favorite cartoon character.

Monnie, holy cow I can’t believe we wear the same size clothing.I am pretty excited to hear that because so you so tiny!It sounds like your aunts and I do like the same kind of things; small world, huh?The reasons I decided to walk in the Race for the Cure were it is such an important cause, it was something I never thought I would be able to do in a million years, and I walked for a friend of mine.My best friend from college was killed in a motorcycle accident about 10 years ago.Since then I have become very good friends with her sister and she was diagnosed with breast cancer about 5 years ago.She is completely recovered now but runs in the Race for the Cure every year so I was very excited to tell her that I was going to walk in it.I wrote her name up on a big board they had that day of survivors.I would love to meet you someday and if you ever come near Wyoming we can definitely go window shopping and swap some clothes. That would be a blast.

Skippy, thank you for thinking of my mom.My dad is pretty healthy and takes good care of her.My mom often tells me 2 things – one is life is never dull with me around and she doesn’t know what she’d do without me.I call her every night just to say hi.I call Marty’s grandmother every day as well. They just like to know someone is thinking of them and it doesn’t really take that much time.I am glad you are my friend too.I have watched Anderson Cooper 360 a few times now.I always enjoy your photos; they are wonderful.Digital cameras are so nice and I love you get your photos instantly.I am not sewing anything right now other than buttons on some of our clothes.Tee hee. I do need to get my vest back out to knit.I am almost done with the back of it.I would have to say my favorite place to visit Denver – we like a couple of shopping malls, the IMAX theater and my favorite jewelry store. As for scenic places Yellowstone and Glacier are so gorgeous I would go back to them anytime.

I thought of a few more things to tell you.

I love teaching astronomy which is kind of funny because it was a job I never sought. The local science teachers would teach the class at the community college for a year or two then decide they didn’t want to teach it anymore so each time they quit they would tell the school to call me (they all knew me from the astronomy club). Each time they asked me to teach it, I turned it down.In the summer of 89 the high school teacher who was set to start teaching the class the next week had been feeling bad all summer and her doctor put her on bed rest for a few months ( I don’t recall why now but she was fine in a few months) so the school was desperate for a teacher.I finally agreed to give it a try.I was the WORST teacher you can imagine.I read my lectures like a speech, started right in on a ton of new vocabulary and had no visual aids.I was bombing as a teacher. Finally my dean suggested I think of some of my favorite teachers and employ the methods they used. The light bulb went off and I changed how I ran my class.I also enrolled in several education and teaching courses and now my class is very popular and I get nice reviews from my students.I have received 3 outstanding adjunct teacher awards in my 19 years at the college.
Marty and I don’t have any children (I had endometriosis and had a complete hysterectomy before me met) but I do have 3 nephews and 2 nieces that I love to spoil. One of my nephews has 3 little boys that are very fun and entertaining.

I love cats but I am very allergic to them.I am allergic to dogs too.

I love to drive fast and sing to my favorite songs while driving – but I do generally stick within 5 miles or so of the speed limit.I especially like to take corners fast and scream “Oh no, we’re going to die” when someone is with me.See, I am kind of goofy.Tee hee. Which of course is proof I am easily entertained.

Here is a photo of the skies from our summer stary party in Wyoming. This is at 9100 feet.

Some of my favorite flowers. I plant several buckets of flowers around our house in the summer and love to take close up photos of them.
