Thought we could do with a thread on nails and manicures so we can swap tips on products, nail colours, tools etc. I have dug out my Fall colours such as Rouge Noir by Chanel, would like to hear of any new colours.

Any tips on nail shaping for the home manicurist? I keep mine short and like them with a gentle curve but I do find shaping frustrating! ecf if you are out there I love the way you shape your nails so any hints would be gratefully accepted!

Does anyone know if Cosmique by Chanel is still available? I heard it was a LE but not sure.

Cosmique is long discontinued and a highly sought after rarity now. There have been lots of other navy shimmers over that last 2 years or so; Chanel even had a newer one called Blue Satin that might be still available. Sally Hansen had a few recently too - Navy Baby and After Midnight are close to Cosmique. If you have your heart set on Cosmique I''d stalk eBay (worldwide search) as it does pop up every now and then.

Here''s Mrs O''Leary''s BBQ by OPI:

Lorelei, your bunny is adorable! I have blue satin and I love it if your looking for a new color, it''s a dark navy blue and I get a ton of compliments on it. I also really like Intermezzo which is new from Chanel, it''s white with a little hint of pink.

Blue Satin is still available! I stocked up last week...I just explain to my FI that in the long run its a lot cheaper than the manicures I used to get. Man, I miss NY- I have not had a pro manicure in a year! They run 40 euros in my area for a basic one.

I am currently addicted to Intermezzo (501) by Chanel. You need to apply 3 coats to get the true color, 2 for a pretty sheen...I get compliments everywhere I go...it has a hint of pink, reminds me of pearls!

I only do light colors...mostly nudes...on my fingers and color on my toes...Vendetta is fabulous, but my all time favorite is Black Satin (219). I Wore Golden Sand (317) a bit this summer, but it isn''t in my top 3-4 favorites.

When MAC released its Hello Kitty Collection, I picked up a grey that I really enjoyed...but their polish chips so easily, so I have only worn it a couple of times.

Has anyone tried Chanel''s Nail Color in Gondola, one of two new Chanel shades for fall? Saw it on a beauty blog and it looks delicious!

I have heard of it but not seen it so I will definitely be checking it out!

EC, thanks for the info, I had a feeling with Cosmique that it is as rare as hens teeth now...

LOVE those colours though, thanks! Those will definitely be on my list.

PL and sba, thanks for the recommendations!

rc - Intermezzo sounds kind of interesting too....

I swear by OPI Nail Envy (the original formula) as a base coat, with any OPI color on top (at least two coats). I very rarely (almost never) use top coat of any kind . . . I just space out my color coat applications over several days, which keeps it fresh looking. OPI is all I''ll use because it takes FOREVER to chip! It''s like coating your nails in Teflon! LOL!

I''m currently wearing "Chocolate Moose," which is an older color from their Canadian collection. I really like this one . . . it''s kind of a mauve-ish brown.

I love the OPI nail polishes--I agree that they last a while! I have been using Seche Base as my base coat, followed by 2 coats of OPI polish (currently wearing Barefoot in Barcelona on fingers and Done out in Deco on toes), then one coat of OPI Rapid-Dry Top Coat if I have time.

A lot of the popular colors at the moment have that "grayed-out" look to them. I like it--grayish colors are great for fall. I recently got OPI''s Tickle My France-y (grayed-out taupe-y color) and Parlez-Vous OPI (purple with a hint of gray), both from their fall ''08 collection. Sephora by OPI Metro Chic is a gun metal/darker gray color that I''ve been debating purchasing.

Hi everyone! I tried OPI''s No Spain No Gain two days! I believe it is a new colour; very pretty and luscious berry but yet not so dark as Rouge Noir. Loving it! I will try and take some pictures when the sun comes out.

I generally do my own manicures almost always, but in the summer I do get professional pedicures.

I''m an expensive-nailpolish convert. I used to believe there was really no difference between the expensive $10-$20 bottles and the $5 drugstore nailpolish. But in lighter colors, it DOES matter. I have never, ever tried a cheap nailpolish in a light peach that didn''t streak.

My new favorite nailpolish is Essie "Blushing Bride." It''s extremely subtle, almost the same color as your own nails. It just adds a little hint of peachy-pink shine.

I am actually going to try to get a paint in tonight. I do need to kick my picking habit. I do it when I''m nervous, or stressed (like when I was doing my quiz Saturday night and took off my thumb nails. Sigh.). Thoughts would be much appreciated there. I''m not biting... so it''s not something that I could put hot sauce on and wait.

I usually go to a nail stylist (as I''m into the whole nail art thing) but in between I will do my own with pink or red polish. I don''t real have any shaping tips, I just do it. I like oval-shaped. for darker colors I prefer shorter nails. for light colors or french manicure I prefer a little longer.

my favorite color is Opi Not So Bora-Boraing, I think it''s called, a dark pink. I don''t own it, but I always have it done when I go to Singapore (most of the nail shops use Opi).

eft8503 - you have beautiful hands and nails.
