I''ve just downloaded a free trial of Publisher and I have no idea how to make my programs with it. I''ve been fooling around with it and I have no idea what I''m doing. There are so many templates but I just want a plain one -- the only design I want is the image from our invitations. I assuming there''s a way to copy and past info. from my Word document into the template. It seems like it should be easy enough but it''s not working out that way.

When I put together the program in Word last night, it came out to 4 pages. I''m not quite sure how I''d like to arrange it. It looks great in Word but it''s pretty big. Here''s what I''ve been thinking:

1. Landscape, not portrait: Put together like a book, stapled in the center (single sided).
2. Landscape, not portrait: Folded together like a brochure (double sided).

I hope I''m explaining this correctly. What I want can''t be hard to do but I''m clueless.

Can anyone help me please?
Thanks!!

Ha ha ha...I''m following your threads on this, too, trying to snag some ideas! Hopefully the ladies here can help us out!

I believe the other elements in the template can just be selected and deleted except for the one you want. So, you choose a fold/orientation you like, then just delete the elements you don't want on it... that way you have the folds, margins and all that set up for you. IHTH.

ETA: the clip art and stuff should just copy-paste right over.

Thanks! I ended up finally getting one to look right but then I decided that I didn''t want a four panel program. I tried folding a piece of paper to look the way I thought it would come out and each section (panel) just looked too narrow. I''m going to try printing it out at work and see if I like it but I don''t think I will.

What I want now (I *think*) is a double-sided book made from two pieces of paper, stapled in the center. Now I just have to figure out how to make that happen in Publisher. It''s so hard to look at a computer monitor and practice (in my head) folding the program on there to look the way I want it. That''s why I had trouble last night. I''ll keep practicing though.

Hey Zoe, I made my own programs so I thought I might be able to offer some advice. I didn't use publisher (used photoshop instead), but I am somewhat familiar with it since I have to use it for work sometimes.

To get more pages, go to insert, then select page. It will ask how many and you should select 4. Now at the bottom of the document it shows 8 pgs. The way I would do the programs is have page 1 be the cover, 2 would be blank (inside cover), 3 would be the first page with printing (your names and wedding date? a quote you like?), 4 & 5 would be facing eachother and would be the main content of the program, 6 would be the last page of print (a thank you? more program info if you need more room?) 7 would be blank (inside of the back cover) and 8 would be the back cover.

It's going to be really hard to staple these. A normal-sized stapler won't reach to the center fold. I ended up using a hole punch and punching 2 holes on the fold and then securing the pages with a thin ribbon. If you can find a stapler that reaches though, it will definitely save you a lot of time.

ETA:

This will actually be 2 sheets of paper if you print front and back, but here's how they'd print:

Sheet 1:
pg8, pg1

(on the back of sheet 1):
pg2, pg7

Sheet 2:

pg6, pg3

(on the back of sheet 2):
pg4, pg5

I just played with it in publisher and sent it to you, so let me know if you don''t get it. The file will hopefully go through.

Mine was several pages but it doesn''t have to be if you use thick paper. Just want to make sure the type doesn''t bleed through. I think you can do what you want with just one sheet folded.

I just saw this...

Thanks for the help Robbie! I appreciate it.

Sum -- yes, I got it and I e-mailed you with a big ol'' THANK YOU!

I''ve been playing around with Publisher more and it''s beginning to make more sense now. I''m surprised I didn''t already have it on my computer. I guess I thought it would come standard with Windows XP Pro. Oh well.

About the stapler Robbie, we have one of those at school, so if I decide to have more than one page, it won''t be a problem to put the programs together. Sum did a mock-up for me and it looks great. I don''t have a ton of additional information to include, so I think I can get away with using only one piece of paper, double sided. Then I won''t have to put anything together -- that would be a great time saver.

Thanks again!

Hey, where''s the linky-dinky to this masterpiece???

I still need a template!

Hi Harleigh,

I just saw this. I''ll edit out the names and then try to post the one that Sumbride did for me. I did one as well but it looked more like a flyer. Oops.

Here''s the cover. If it comes out too big, sorry! THe blank spots are are our names and our venue''s name.

It''s set up like this:

Zoe and FI
July 12, 2008

Venue Name
Town, Maine

Our program will be one sheet of paper, double sided (and folded). Sorry for all the blank spots. Obviously I took out everyone''s names.

And here''s page 2 (I think I titled it page 3 by accident). I can''t remember who "Real Love" is by, so there are X''s in place of the name. Also, the big blank space where it mentions the reading by my students is just my name.

page 3 of program.JPG

And this will be the back cover. Sorry the images are a bit blurry. It looks much better obviously when the pages are side by side but I didn't know if they'd look funny after resizing or if you'd be able to read any of the information. Hopefully you get the idea though. ETA: Where it says "we appreciate...," it's actually not hyphenated in real life. It came out that way while I was resizing the page.

I think the pages look great, wow!
