Hi everyone!

I''m hoping y''all will be able to help me with some questions I have about making changes to my engagement ring.

First, my ring is white gold, and it has turned yellow-ish. Would my ring eventually turn a yellow-ish color if I had it dipped in platinum?

Second, is it possible to re-shape a band? My engagement ring band looks like the picture below, but I want it to look Tiffany classic.

Also, you can change 4 prongs to 6 prongs, correct? Would 6 prongs be too overwhelming surrounding a diamond that is a bit over 1 carat?

Sorry for all the questions...I feel

(dumb) asking them. Thanks soo much in advance!

1. The other metals that are mixed with white gold often oxidize with exposure to the chemicals released by our skin. It is not possible to coat the ring in platinum, however it can be plated with rhodium which will slow down the oxidation process. Most jewelers charge $15 - 25.00 for this service and it usually lasts 1+ years depending on the acidity of your skin and whether you wear your ring while swimming in chlorinated water and/or expose it to household cleaning agents.

2. Not really, you''d be better off and happier in the long run if you simply replace the ring entirely.

3. A jeweler should be able to change the prongs from four to six rather easily, it looks like the setting incorporates a peg style setting which can be removed with a torch and a new six prong head can be soldered in. Six prongs will not overwhelm a one carat round.

- you can make changes to the ring to a certain extent if it is not a one piece ring, I like the look of 6 prongs, it makes the diamond look rounder than a 4 prong, and I feel more comfortable with 6 prongs for security reason than 4, but that should not deter you from 4 prongs if you wish, just get it checked more frequently.
- have you not gotten it rhodium plated back to white gold
- to some extent you can reshape the band. I had my jeweler soften my shank more rounded look instead of boxy look if that makes sense.
