Our new baby is 2 weeks old and we also have our 4 yr old. I've been lucky to throw on some mascara and lipgloss before rushing out the door. My eyes are swollen from lack of sleep so my normal eye makeup looks terrible. My skin under my eyes is very dry so even my concealer looks bad. Luckily, my skin doesn't look too bad so I'm just not worrying about face makeup at all. What are your perk-up make up tips?

Always apply moisturizer to your skin after you've spritzed it with ice water. The cold will cause your pores to shut, making your skin look smoother and makeup to go on more evenly.

Always apply under eye concealer with your pinky finger and not your middle finger. It's a smaller finger without as much strength, so there will be less pulling at the thin skin under your eye (which can often cause creasing and loss of elasticity).

Put chapstick on before lipstick. It will hold the color better and prevent flaking.

Crushed aspirin and vaseline paste is a surefire trick when you've got a breakout happening. I don't know why but I put it on, rinse it off and the next morning my skin is dewey and clear. I know it sounds like vaseline would cause breakouts, but it doesn't.

Keep your makeup and nail polish in the refrigerator. It will last longer and prevent clumping/separating as opposed to a hot bathroom cabinet or makeup kit.

I'm a makeup minimalist these days too. I am just into my second trimester with #2 and I have a 2 year old son. When my m/s was really bad I would just put on some compact cream foundation (MAC) and some mascara and be done with it. My skin doesn't need moisturizer in the summer months. I skip lip color all the time and just use chapstick. Since I'm starting to feel better I'm using blush and also some eye shadow/liner on days that it's not too humid to think about going outside.

Since your skin is dry I'd do a good moisturizer followed by a light foundation or just use a tinted moisturizer. Then use a bit of mascara and a swipe of blush. If your eyes are really puffy, and if you have some time, you could put a cold compress or ice cubes on them to bring the swelling down.

I moisturize religiously, at least twice a day with a heavy moisturizer, and I see a really noticeable difference in my overall appearance if, for whatever reason, I slack a bit. My skin looks tired, dull, and like you said, concealer doesn't settle as smoothly. So I'd start there!

Smashbox, I think, makes a peachy-toned product that's supposed to conceal dark under-eye circles (big problem for me). It's meant to be applied underneath under-eye concealer. I'm sure other cosmetic lines make something similar. I've also found that a dab of concealer by the creases of my nose and the outer corners of my eyes perks up my face.

And blush!

And sleep... :snore:

A little highlighter can go a long way. I use a shimmery white-ish eye shadow and apply to the inside corner of my eye (you can also apply under the browline). It really opens up your eyes and makes you look more alert and awake.

Waterlining is lining the inside of your eyelid with a waterproof cream liner. I find a little bit of black or dark brown liner on my water line goes much further than traditional eye liner for making my eyes look open and awake. It's not hard to apply, but takes a bit of practice. Just google it and you can find a lot of youtube videos with tips. For daytime, only do the top lid.

My other favorite product is Makeup Forever High Definition Powder. It's a transparent lose powder that you can put on with or without foundation (I typically use moisturizer and concealer, but no foundation). It gives my skin a great even texture and cuts down shininess in one quick step.

I'm technically not allowed to wear makeup in my new job so I'm a pro at wearing very little makeup and making it look natural  Just a little mascara, a little blush, subtle waterline, and some concealer and you're good to go.

Great tips, girls!

I'm a moisturizing fanatic and I apply twice a day. I think that's why most of my skin looks pretty okay. I'll definitely try some of the depuffing methods mentioned here.

Highlighting is a great tip too. I actually have a great highlighting pen that I never use! But, I'm gonna try it in my corners to open up my eyes a bit.

I just hate to look haggard, ya know??

And, for my own tip to others. Drink lots of water!! I had been slacking on the water in favor of Mt Dew to stay awake. But, adding in that good hydration does help!

First apply a tinted moisturizer with SPF to your whole face - I like the ones by Clinique and Laura Mercier.

Next apply a brightening highlighting concealer under your eyes and in the inner corners of your eyes - Yves Saint Laurent's Touche Eclat is the best. You can also use a heavier blemish concealer on zits if you have them - Bobbi Brown makes a good one.

Next use either a powder bronzer on your cheeks and eyelids, or a cream product like NARS The Multiple to cheeks and eyelids to add some color to your face.

Curl lashes and apply mascara. I love Cover Girl mascaras. Also, brush your eyebrows, and keep them shaped and groomed by tweezing once a week. Brows that propery frame your face do wonders for making you look awake.

Finally, apply a tinted lip balm or gloss with SPF 15. I love the one that Bobbi Brown makes.

So, that's 5 products total - tinted moisturizer, concealer, bronzer, mascara & lip gloss. I do this routine every morning while trying to get my preschooler out the door, and I also have a 3 month old infant. It takes me about 3 minutes to do the whole thing, and it makes me look WAY BETTER than I do without makeup and sleep.

I forgot to mention that Clinique just came out with a great product for undereye bags & circles that I swear by - I think it's called All About Eyes SERUM - not the stuff that comes in a pot. It comes in a big tube with a rollerball at the end, and you roll it all around your eyelids. It feels cool and refreshing going on, really works, and they give you A LOT of product for what it costs - about $25. I've been using it for about 4 months, and I haven't even used a quarter of the tube yet.

My go-to product these days is Bare Minerals WELL RESTED stuff. I don't think they actually consider it an "eyeshadow", so let's call it powder. Anyway, i apply it to the lid, under the eye and in the corner. It does make me look WELL RESTED! :appl:

I've been doing the highlighter and bronzer and I look soo much better! I went to a party this evening at DH's family's and was told how "great" I look!

What is your skin tone?

My tips for make up is to look fresh is:

- white eye liner
line your inner rims or edges of your eyes with white eye liner
it makes your eyes 'pop' and more alive

- white/light eye shadow

See link below how to use them:

Good use of highlighter also brightens your complexion and makes you look 'fresh'.

I'd skip anything heavy - go for a dewy makeup look. This makes you look more fresh & youthful.

For skin - I recommend:

I usually use BB cream because it's light instead of foundation.

I've been using the light eyeshadow for several months now (since the extreme fatigue of pregnancy!) My sis (who likes to party) is the one who told me that little trick!

Thanks for the links, I'll head over...

Somethingshiny, you are so pretty I bet you look glowy even though you feel tired from being a new mama! :wavey:

I wanted to second Vesper's YSL Touche Eclat recommendation. It's expensive but works the best. I find that powdery or overly creamy concealers can slide around or settle into fine lines to make the wearer look more tired. Touche Eclat is very light and you can even layer it to be sheer or get more coverage! I use Giorgio Armani's Luminous Silk foundation as concealer because it is soooooo light and gives a glowy finish. The tiniest drop is good for your whole face!

To be even more glowy, I like the facial spritzes after you apply makeup. MAC Fix+ is a good one. It kind of mists your face and helps the makeup "melt" into your skin giving you a glow... and the lighter shadow is awesome! Some eyeshadow favorites to make you look more awake are Stila Kitten (for fair ladies like yourself) or Stila Sun (for olive toned ladies like myself)... If you like MAC, Naked Lunch or Rice Paper have a cult following for the "looking more awake" crowd. For the glow that tired skin sometimes lacks, I love Lorac's Luminous powder which is whisper light and gives you that glowy look if you put it on your cheekbones and highlighting areas! Not too much unless you want to look like the Tin Man from Wizard of Oz! :naughty:

But it sounds like you've got it covered! Light shadow on the lid and inner corners, concealer (tiny bit if at all) and an eyelash curler! You're good to go!!!!

I'm off to try the Clinique eye serum now! Thanks for the tip!!!

Bliss~ You're too sweet! Thanks. I think I need to find the YSL concealer. Mine is just too much right now so something really light and sheer will be great.
