Hi everyone =) i''m new here and my engagement (hopefully) is right around the corner...I found this site AFTER i purchased the ring. The specs of the Center stone are as followed:

cushion modified brilliant
6.66 x 5.62 x 3.69 mm l/w ratio: 1.185 roundup = 1.19
1.14 carat
color: H
clarity: SI1
total depth: 65.7%
table size: 65%
girdle: medium to Thick, Faceted
culet: none
polish: excellent
symmetry: very good
fluorescence: none
comments: additional clouds are not shown

Now from what i''ve read there is no perfect table size for cushion cut stones...but from what i''ve read here i have learned that you should stay in the 50''s...mine is 65% which now i know is too large...but is this a significant factor with regards to fire/brilliance? and is my depth % more in the ball park? Basically I want to know if I bought a good stone for $3762 + tax

This center is surrounded by 32 2point stones in 14k gold which imitates the Tiffany Novo (setting cost me $700)...actually the original deal was for 24 2point stones around the band but they messed up lol...after the owner saw it he was like "aahh whatever"...so I thiiiiiink I made out well...my total purchase price was about $4,700 (including tax)....is this a pretty good deal???

And lastly, the ring came in a 4 prong setting which IMO is making it look like a princess cut diamond instead of a cushion (im guessing the large table is giving this effect as well)...what can I do to make the center stone look more round? I feel like the 4 prongs are large and giving an appearance of 4 corners...will a split-prong style go with the corner curvature? they were going to charge me an additional $150 for the split-prong setting which I declined...with a 1.19 l/w ratio is it harder to give it a rounder appearance? plleeeeaaaseeee help me make my cushion a bit more cushiony

Its definately all about the prongs in your situation!!! They really take over imo.

Otherwise your cushion looks pretty yummy to me. With the split prongs, or indeed any prong......it depends on how skilled the jeweller is who is making them. Please make sure that you approve of the style of whoever you get to remake the prongs. You would be surprised at how much variation there is, even with split prongs.

Ideally you would want them to be very delicate and not take away from your gorgeous cushion!!!!

thanks a lot...and do you have an opinion on the specifications or the price I paid?

Well, it looks exactly like what I would have chosen if I had your stone. I love an all diamond band that shows very little metal. And, the setting looks way more expensive than $700!!!!

The prongs are the only thing pulling it down imo. I would splurge to get them changed if money is not an object and if I was certain that the new ones would be delicate.

The ring as it is presents as beautiful and changes are not necessary to enjoy the ring.

ETA- Oh you mean opinion on your stone!!!!!

I understand where you are coming from re. large table not being as cushiony......but to the eye it is indeed a cushion and looks to be very pretty. I am no expert, but in the real world of ordinary people no one will ever notice about the table!!!! Im guessing that the larger table enabled you to afford a bigger size. At the end of the day, yes, you might have been able to find a better cut but would you have wanted to pay more or get a smaller size?

I think what you paid sounds about right, but it will look more expensive to the casual observer. imo

Marino,

There really isn''t an ideal size for a cushion table, or any numbers that can predict how a stone will look, they need to be seen and chosen because you like that particular type of cushion.

Your diamond is lovely!

Here is a picture os a similar shape cushion to your diamond but this one is in a double-claw(aka split-prong) setting so that the prongs are less noticeable than in your picture - ignore the rest of the ring whichj has bead-set diamonds.

My idea in posting this is to let you see what the cushion would look like it it had less prominent claws. This picture shows a 2.3 carat D VS2 cushion - even in this larger diamond, the claws do not have to look large unless you want them to.

The most important thing with buying a fancy cut is that you love how it looks. Your cushion is fairly rectangular and will never have the really pillowy look of some cushions, it just isn't how it's cut. But as to making the ring flatter the stone more, those prong have got to go.

wow thanks a lot guys/gals...that pic is exactly what i''m looking for...it makes the ring look more delicate, goes with the corners'' curvature and gives it a more round/cushiony look. And what I just noticed is that this month diamond prices have fallen off the deep end and if I would have waited 1 more week I could have probably saved some money...but I try not to get caught up in saving a couple extra hundred bucks...more important that the ring comes out good, my future fiancee enjoys it and I didn''t get ripped off IMO. Thanks a lot guys/gals

Also the diamond in that setting looks to be a different type of cushion than what you bought too, so just be aware of that. A modified brilliant will look a bit more like a princess than a cushion brilliant in most circumstances too because IMO the pattern produced by most modified cushions looks more like a princess.

I did a search for cushions in H SI1 in the range of 1.1 to 1.2. The online price seem to average around $3500.
