Wedding made my own wedding invitation - what d''ya think?

I saw some nice invitations by a shop on ebay but was really down when I found out that they only ship within the U.S. I live in Europe. so I thought I''d give it a go myself. let me know what you think. the colors for my wedding are dark blue and white.
I''m quite proud of myself and think it''s the nicest wedding invitation I''ve ever seen - but that''s just because it''s totally my style.

unfortunately we don''t have a lot of nice craft stuff where I live, but I have a trip planned to LA in September and will see if I can find some shinier dark blue paper. not getting married until Sep 2009 so have lots of time to find the right stuff.

inside. includes RSVP card and self-addressed envelope as well an extra page which will have additional information regarding driving instructions, hotels, etc.

Beautiful and classic.... I''d love to see it with a more metallic navy blue. Something with a bit of shine to it.

Would you be opposed to introducing a tiny bit of silver or gold - might add a nice ''formal'' element.

The font is lovely.

It''s a great idea to make them yourself - more personal and save on cash!

Beautiful!! The navy and white are very formal and classic.

For paper supplies check out www.paper-source.com. They may have shinier paper and I''m pretty sure they have an LA location.
 
I totally agree with the shiny navy blue.

That''s a gorgeous invitation, you did a great job! About how long did it take to assemble, if you don''t mind me asking? I''m thinking of DIYing my invitations, so I''m curious.

Oh those are lovely - so classy and will save you a bundle too. I do hope you don''t have to make 200 of them though! That will keep you busy for a month!
 
Those are beautiful! I''m a bit biased, though, because blue and white/pearl were my colors too. I got some great cardstock with a bit of sparkle to it at California Paper Goods. I used the Micro Sparkle Abysse that''s about 1/3 of the way down this page. I believe they ship to Europe, too.
 
Octavia - it didn''t take long at all - just 2 hours. think it will go quicker the next time now that I know exactly the size for all the bits and pieces. I just used Word 2003 for the text - was happy enough with the available font. I didn''t use any glue on the ribbon, just slid it through slits and made sure it stays in tight. the difficult bit was using the razor to cut straight lines. I think if I purchase a long enough ruler this should be no problem. the large card itself I bought that way folded and used 2 cards for the invitation and also the RSVP envelope I bought separately.

actually in Europe this stuff is quite expensive so I think I might spend more money than having them made, but I like making them myself (well, at least the one I did - I''ll probably hate myself after making 5). hopefully will find much nicer and affordable paper in the U.S. thankfully I only have to make about 50 of these.

Noel, if you go to a scrapbooking store here in the US, they have cutters that are only about $20 US that will allow you to cut perfect straight lines every time without having to use a razor. MUCH easier.
 
I think it looks great. I''ll be DIY-ing mine too, and I just ordered from Paper Source. Their customer service is amazing, and their prices are very reasonable. I''ll be making my invitations (not including postage) for $1.06 per invite, and $0.42 per response card. Definitely check into them, I''ve never been to the store, although I would love to!
 
neatfreak - Langton? have you heard that name before? we haven''t. his mom just thought it was nice. his family is South African.

Let''s just say it''s very familiar to me now that I''ve gotten married. It''s a last name, but it''s pretty rare in the states.

neatfreak - we were just having a laugh because turns out his mom got the idea from a friend of theirs who has that name. I asked if this guy Langton is really tall (FI is really tall) and he is!... but you can tell he''s his father''s son so there''s no question about that!
