Hi everyone! I know I should probably know this, but I can''t remember so I thought I would ask. How much do MAC Trials cost and how much does it cost to get your make-up done the day of? I just need an approximate amount. I am trying to decide if I can afford a make-up artist, I was going to do my own make-up....but judging from my make-up skills I''ve been rethinking that lately.

I have read other people on here say that they were charged around 40 to 50 dollars I believe. However, we dont have a MAC store where I live.. just a spot in our Dillard''s department store.. and I stopped by one day and asked for info and they told me it was "free" as long as you purchased 3 items. Their stuff isnt super expensive, I bought a mascara for 12, so it would be between 30 and 40!

I opted to go with Chanel and there is no charge at all! They say you will probably fall in love and buy something, but no pressure to! I actually go in on Friday for my first trial! If you want a Chanel makeup artist to come to you the day of it was 100 dollars for one hour.. and she said she could do me and my mom in that time and possibly one other person!

Technically the application is free, they just ask that you buy $50 worth of products. If you have different department stores in the area, call around or vist their MAC counters before you make a decision on which one to use. I ended up using the Macy*s one because it seemed like it was the most friendly and relaxed - one department store kept telling me that I needed to buy "AT LEAST $50 worth of products" - I just got the feeling they were going to be pushy. Also - some counters will waive the $50 requirement if you get it done during the week as opposed to on a weekend day.

I would also recommend that you try Lancome - I happened to run into a girl who did a better job with my makeup than MAC did. And I really loved the Teint Idole Ultra foundation better than any of the others I tried.

The person that you get has a lot to do with how satisfied you'll be - and of course even within MAC some artists are better than others as far as not only listening to what you really want, but their skill level. You might get lucky and absolutely love your first makeup trial and be done with it (hopefully!). For me, it took many trial and errors and different makeup counters. In my case, the Lancome counter/girl happened to be the best.

Sabine and I both had our makeup done at a MAC counter. Neither of us had to pay for the trial, but for the application on the wedding day a $50 product purchase was required. I also had my makeup done for my cousin''s wedding at a MAC store. It was a flat $50 charge any time you got your makeup done and they gave me a free mascara. If you have a MAC store, I''d go there, but if not, MAC counters are good as well.

They recently changed their policy and on the weekends you must buy $50 worth of product if they do your whole face. If you go during the week it is complimentary I believe. You can get around the $50 product by having them do eyes only and going to a different MAC and having them do face. We did this with my friend who got married to try colors.

Thanks everyone!

I will try to make an appointment in August at my MAC store!

ETA: Do you need an appointment, or do you just go? I forgot to ask that..

ETA: LJ I can't wait to see how your Chanel trial goes!! I will consider Chanel, too. That's a great price!
