Hi! I''ve lurked here for a while, and I''ve learned a lot so far just be reading all of your great advice.

I am gathering ideas for my engagement ring, and I''m hoping that you can give me a taste of reality. My boyfriend has a budget of around $2,000 (possibly up to $2,500) total for the stone and setting. My ring size is 4, and I really don''t want a stone larger than 0.5 carats. I would be happy with anything over 0.25, actually. I want something dainty, relatively simple, and classic, with a round stone. I definitely want a diamond, not a colored stone.

Until I saw Tacori settings, I was convinced that I wanted a solitaire. Now these two settings are giving me second thoughts.

I especially like the second one, as it appears in this thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/half-carat-round-in-a-tacori-setting.96621/

Can anyone tell me if this is workable with his budget? Or do you have suggestions for similar settings that would be workable? I don''t even want to show him these unless I know that it is possible, because I don''t want him to feel pressured into pushing his budget! Thanks in advance!

the tacori settings alone will eat up a lot of your boyfriend''s budget. Would you and your boyfriend be willing to get your stone and set it into a simple solitaire and then save up for the tacori and reset your stone when finances would allow? That''s probably what I would do. I would suggest going and trying on the tacori settings in person if you can. many times rings look very different on our fingers than they do in photos or on the computer. there are also other designers out there that might be a little more budget friendly if you are open to that option as well.

That''s what I was afraid of. I am definitely open to different designers. Do you know of any less expensive designers that have super dainty settings similar to Tacori? For now, I plan to keep my original setting forever. While upgrading is a popular option, I don''t think it''s for me. I would be happy with a solitaire, but I just wanted to check out a few other options before giving him the final word.

Well, the first setting says it starts at $1450, which is probably 18k gold. If that is ok with you, you could get a stone like this for $620 (with pricescope discount) and have a nearly half-carat ring!!!

Oh, and I have a Tacori and it is totally worth the $$. I wouldn''t try to find a cheaper ring with the same detail, nearly impossible IMO.

shimmer...that''s a great idea!

polkadots, If you really love the original I agree that it would be better to get it. Goodoldgold and Mark T at engagementringsdirect.com both carry tacori so I would have your BF or youself email them for quotes to see if they can find a stone that would work in your budget. Many times a retailer cannot offer much of a discount on designers settings but if you can get the stone and setting from the same place they might be able to negotiate the price a bit...it never hurts to ask. make sure you tell them you found them on PS.
