My amazing bf asked me exactly what I wanted. He didn't want to surprise me for fear of possibly disappointing me. This is a second marriage for both of us. We both have children from our previous marriages, 7 total : ) Everyone gets along and the kids can't wait until we are married. Neither can we. We are so happy to have found each other.

I love to research things. I like to learn everything I can before making a big purchase. I mean I analyze things to death....and I really enjoy it ; ) This forum has been an amazing resource. I am so happy that I was able to learn enough to make the right decision. I remember the ring I had from my previous marriage didn't sparkle as much as I thought it should. I would keep it meticulously clean otherwise it would look even less sparkly. I remember the color and clarity were decent but I didn't know much about cut. I no longer have to the ring but I suspect the cut wasn't so good.

So to the diamond I chose:
1.68 carat G color SI2 Brian Gavin Signature Hearts and Arrows

The setting in platinum:
I will be purchasing elsewhere and sending to BG to mount the diamond.

Thank you all so much! I can't wait until he gets the ring. Although I do know what I am getting I don't know when or how he will propose so that part will still be a surprise : )

Beautiful stone if eye clean. Did you talk to Brian?

I did not speak to Brian however Jamie checked and told me it was noted as eye clean.

I guess it's not so exciting without pics ; ) I'll be sure to post some after I receive the ring : )

I love that setting! Should be a pretty combo!

Thanks. I looked at many many settings at stores all through the Diamond District in New York as well as countless internet stores plus Google images. I was originally going to go with a Ritani setting, Vintage Tulip, which I really love, but I decided I like the Vatche Swan even more. Here's the Modern Tulip (Whiteflash has it listed as Modern Tulip but it's actually the Vintage Tulip):

The only thing I would change on this ring is the sides that come up. I would have them sort of hug the diamond more instead of coming almost straight up. The Swan is perfect as is so I decided to go with it instead.

Eye-clean per what specifications?

I have a feeling that inclusion right on the table will be visible at some distance, it just matters what distance is important to you.

Beautiful setting & stone. Of course, if you choose a different stone you can still choose that setting. LOL Is very nice. :-)

I am not that experienced but I think for the money you can get a better diamond than the one you have chose - am I wrong???

That table inclusion would drive me mad thats just my opinion

Hmmm well I asked if it was eye clean and she said it was. From what I understand this means that it can't be seen with the naked eye at a distance of 10 inches? Should I call and ask someone to check it again for me?

Regarding it being eye clean I took this from Brian Gavin's website:
"The term eye-clean is used to describe diamonds that have no visible inclusions to the naked eye when viewed in the face-up position from no closer than 6" to 12". This is the way most diamonds are seen in their setting."

Jamie emailed me about the diamond and confirmed it was eye clean in the email.

Pretty setting, but it will not at all allow for a flush fit band, please make sure your lady doesn't want a flush fit band. If she does, then something like this would be a better option:

Actually I am the lady ; ) Thank you Gypsy for pointing out the fit of the wedding band. I am aware that it will not be flush to the ring. I know there is a matching band made for the ring that is notched to fit flush though. I had also considered wearing the band on my right hand. While not traditional, I did this with my last ring and I liked it. I like the idea of the side details of the engagement ring not being obscured by the band.
