Who luckystar112, could we hear more about you?

Your kitty Bob sounds a lot like my Ginger. I had to put her to sleep in May, and I still get pretty sad when I look at her pictures....but we had that weird communication thing too. Whenever I''d be crying about something, she''d come and find me, and would put her paws up on my cheeks, kind of wiping my tears. Or if I told her I loved her, she''d meow back and put her paw on top of my hand and squeeze. And she slept wrapped around my head too, and also would greet me when I''d come home. There''s just somethings so special about the bond with out pets, hey? If you want to see a pic, I have one posted over in Coati''s ww thread.

I met my dh Clint, when I was 12. He was 15. I had a huge crush on him from the first time we met. I didn''t really register on his radar for several years. Haha, a 12 year old, go figure!
3.gif

My bff, who I went to school with, and did everything with is his first cousin. She and I go way back. And somewhere along the line, she and I would go over and hang out with her "older" boy cousins and play games, or sports, or whatever. Of course, they often had some of their high school friends over as well, so there was always a crowd. And I was really shy, too. Then the summer of my senior year of high school, my bff and I went to hang out with her "older" (now college) cousins, which we hadn''t really done in a couple years. Clint and I had seen each other through the years at church, and family stuff (I was made an honorary cousin in their family)and were always friendly, but never anything more than a quick hi- nice to see you-bye, kind of thing. So, my crush on him had continued off and on through the last 5 or 6 years (and in between other boyfriends and crushes), and this particular time we met, the chemistry just ignited (mutually, this time). We got engaged about 3 years later, and our 3rd wedding anni is coming up next month!

Hopefully the rest of your anatomy class goes well. I was laughing about the bones (epicondoyles, etc). I'm an xray tech, so I have to know the bones inside and out!!
3.gif
You don't even want to know how many anatomy and physiology classes I've taken!

Haha JS is only my FI not quite DH yet! Lucky, Bob sounds adorable, can we see pics?!
30.gif

Okay that study abroad program sounds AWESOME! I''ve always wondered how other countries teach history like a comparative history study. I know it''s different..and well the revolutionary war, well we know that''s different. Haha. I''ve studied in Japan twice actually for a few weeks at a time, it''s a pretty fascinating place. History-wise it is, too. I took a bunch of Japanese history classes and then Korean history and well it''s amazing to see things from a different perspective to say the least! History''s a huge politically contentious issue in Asia because Japan tends to gloss things over a bit - okay a lot.
6.gif
Which is silly right? I mean it''s history..it''s fact. Welllll they kind of act like it didn''t happen.
40.gif
But anyway, I would recommend studying abroad to anyone at least once somewhere! I think it really helps you see your own country better, and well the program you''re interested in would definitely do that!

Haha are you going as Palin?! I would recommend trying Kohls, TJ Maxx, Macy''s, and JC Penney for the flag pin. July 4th season is over, but you never know they may have one on clearance!
4.gif

About your Grandpa - I understand where you''re coming from. My Grandpa died 8 years ago now and he was like my second Dad. We went over to my Grandparents house pretty much every day until they moved away when I was like 8. Needless to say it''s been hard.
7.gif
15.gif
But Bob loving on you after your dream is so adorable! Hehe, he must have known you were upset!
8.gif
Gotta love pets, I miss my doggie she is at home w/ my parents and I am away at school.
7.gif
Oh well. I get to see her this weekend!!!
36.gif

Aww joflier Ginger sounds sweet..I am sorry you had to put her to sleep. That is so hard. I still miss our dog we had to put to sleep almost 6 years ago. They really are family members and I agree they definitely can respond to our emotions. *Hugs* I will go check out this photo! Your story about you and your DH is so sweet!
1.gif

I second that about your anatomy class, I hope it is going well! I got the exam back I thought I bombed and I got a 91, so go figure on that one, haha. Looks like we both didn''t do as bad as we thought when it came to your foreign policy exam and my history exam.

Also, thought I might let you know ahead of time I think I am going to step out of ATW for a while. I don''t really see the point in posting there anymore. I''m not learning anything..and well I don''t exactly feel like I am helping anyone else either as they really for the most part don''t care to see what I have to say...so I might as well step out. Just thought I''d let you know. *Hugs* But I''ll stick around here so we can still chat!!

Thanks for the hugs Sarah. I''ve pretty much gone to a lurking stance too. Its just gotten to be pointless to post any pro-republican anything over there.

Aw man, I couldn''t imagine putting my poor kitty asleep!
39.gif

I didn''t have many pets growing up. My mom would buy a pet or get one from the animal shelter, and then get rid of it within the year (no idea why she did that)...so I''ve never experienced the pain of putting a pet to sleep. Your cat sounds so sweet...you must miss her so much! I know when the time comes with my cat I''ll be a wreck. I''m going to try and see if I can find the pic in Coati''s thread. I''ll post a pic of my cat later...the only one I have is on my other computer.

That is a GREAT story. I definitely remember wanting all the "older guys" in middle school and high school, and I can totally picture the awkwardness of hanging around them. haha.

LOL at the anatomy classes! UGH I hate the class so much. I seriously have so much more respect for anyone in the medical field. I''ve always had a hard time with science classes because it seems like the texts are so unreasonable! Or may it''s the profs. For example, this last test covered four chapters. The first problem is they stuff SO much information in one chapter, it''s insane!!! Like one chapter will teach you about all the major bones in the body, then every bone in the face, then every nook and cranny on each and every bone, then every single type of joint in the body and where they are located. That''s like four separate chapters in my mind....but not in the Science word. My last test was all of that plus three other (just as long) chapters. Sigh.

1.gif
Sarah, I don't blame you at all. It's definitely gotten harder in ATW to be able to post your opinion without a snarky reply in return. I've been thinking about not posting either. I have actually noticed that people I have never communicated with outside ATW have come out of hiding to basically....I don't know.....tell me I suck? lol. So I'm starting to think that people are taking it personally. I know I am.
5.gif
And it really irks me when people are saying we're the mean ones. Let's get real here...almost everyone on ATW has been snarky in one way or another. Perhaps I look like I'm the mean one because I fight snark with snark? I can be a total biatch, and I admit it...but I expect others to admit it too, ya know? But I just refuse to be talked to like I'm an idiot or like my opinon doesn't matter (or that it's "illogical" as someone said the other day), which is why I can't help but reply sometimes. I miss the separate threads...it made all the difference. Also, Indygal and Holly have been MIA for the last few days so it has been like 2 against 20. They've got strength in numbers, that's for sure. I wonder if Indy and Holly have been MIA on purpose? How boring would ATW be without us (as in, our alternative opinions). Could you imagine "The View" without Elizabeth's conservative voice? Four women just sitting there agreeing on everything? Borrrinngggg.
21.gif
Still, I hear you....and I think I'm going to cut back too. If I see something interesting and positive that I want to post about McCain/Palin, I'll post it here. I don't think that'll break any rules.
33.gif

ETA: It's sad that I felt like I had to give that long-winded response because I'm afraid they're "lurking" and might go back to one of the threads and use it against me in some sarcastic, snarky way.
40.gif

I looked for a pin at walmart, khol's, and target so far...and nothing.
7.gif
Think I'm going to just make a fake one somehow. But we NEED them because they totally make the outfit. Otherwise we'll just look like we're dressed up. lol.

I hate losing Grandpas.
7.gif

lol...don't you love it when you think you did bad on a test and then you end up getting a good grade? Unfortunately I DON'T think that's the case with my anatomy test. He hasn't graded it yet though!!!

I definitely want to look into going abroad, but I need the mula first. Then of course my mom had to throw a trip to the caribbean in to the mix.
4.gif
Trying not to look too far ahead...I haven't even bought my plane tickets for xmas yet!!!!!

P.S. Do either of you read Megan McCain's blog? She went to Maine recently and she has a bunch of new pics up. omg....I'm sooooooooooo freaking homesick. I have GOT to go home. I haven't been home in almost 3 years. Except for a three day stint to go to my brother's wedding in Oct. 2006.
39.gif

Re: The flag pin, why don''t you try ebay?
5.gif
You still have about a week, so that''s enough time if the person is willing to ship it faster!
9.gif
Go go ebay! I did a search and found some for $1.99.

Yeah it''s been very hard not to respond, but I''m doing it.
2.gif
We''ll live, right? If you find anything interesting definitely post it here for me! And as for your response..well I feel you 100%.

Hey maybe the anatomy test didn''t go that bad, you never know! :) Oooh the Caribbean? I''ve never been there, sounds fun!
31.gif
I look at her blog a lot, but I hadn''t been there in a few days so I went and checked it out. I can definitely see why you''re missing it! Ever since you said that about the leave I''ve been thinking about it, haha. I had thought maybe we would go out to Southern California at some point..but I think I would miss the leaves too much.
8.gif

What''s your favorite holiday?
5.gif

Wow, 3 years is a long time to be away from home!!
8.gif
My parents only live 40 minutes away, and I seem them almost every week. I''d be so sad if I had to move away!!!!

Is your anatomy class just this semester, or the whole year? 4 chapters does seem like way too much for one test. Unless its an excellorated class. Anat would be awful to do in an excel. format, esp if you don''t have any previous experience with it. I bet you''ve had all you can handle of memorizing fossas and foramens and condyles for awhile?
2.gif

Lord Lucky you''ve been getting snarked at hard in my absence!
6.gif
Not going to say anything else about it, just woah.

Anyway, to continue my last post - what''s your favorite holiday? And to add a new question: what''s your favorite food?

Hi Lucky, it is nice to see you have a thread!!! I loved your wedding pictures! Also, I think it is awesome you went to Italy w/your in laws; I loved those pictures. Just wanted to say howdy!

Joflier: A very long....long.....long semester. At least that's what it feels like!!!
He just uploaded all the grades. Halfway through and I have a D so far!!!!
39.gif
Just so you know I have a 3.9 GPA. I have never, in my college career, gotten below a B in any class. I don't know what I'm going to do but I have to do it quick.
15.gif

Sarah: Hehe! Just fighting the good fight! There are some very smart people on pricescope, and I will admit they've really been able to show a side of some things that I think make total sense. I love the thoughts and sharing of ideas. It is fun!

Okay, look. Is anyone here fascinated with hypnosis like me? I found something on the internet, and I found it to be extremely interesting. I didn't post it in ATW because it's basically about how Obama may be purposely hypnotizing people in his speeches (lol could you imagine?). But if you read it, it is fascinating! It basically disects Obama's speeches and breaks them down by his repetitions, pauses, hand gestures, etc. and makes the claim that these are hypnosis techniques that Dr. Milton Erikson discussed in one of his books. Now you can see why I didn't post it in ATW.
3.gif
OF COURSE I don't think that Obama is trying to hypnotize anyone. But it is still extremely thorough and a good read. It teaches you a lot about the inner-workings of the brain and how speech is effective (with a little psycho-conspiracy theory mixed in, of course).
Anyway, I won't even link it. If you're interested at all, just google obama and hypnotize. It is the first result, a pdf file.
I'm going to regret this, aren't I? lol. Oh well. If you're able to read it with an open mind, and phase out most of the fear-mongering (and there is a lot of it), it is (in my opinion), pretty cool to read.

Skippy: Thanks so much for the sweet comments! I hope to go to Europe again real soon. I really love it there.

My favorite holiday is Christmas. For one, it is the only holiday that we spend with family. I also love the games like yankee swap (white elephant to you southerners), and I love the FOOD! I also love watching people open their gifts. I spend a lot of time thinking about what people may like and doing my best to get them a good gift. I am SO excited to go to Maine this year, I can't even tell you. The last two Christmas holidays we spent in VA, at the family lake house, and it didn't have a tree or anything. As a matter of fact my mom came down to VA to see us and she later told me she was a little depressed because there were no Christmas decorations at the lake house and she felt like she missed Christmas.
While I'm hope I plan on really "selling" New England to DH. I'm going to take him all down the coast, show him what I did and where I went growing up, show him how great the schools were..etc etc!

My least favorite holiday is probably Thanksgiving. It's just us, and DH usually just watches football all day while I cook too much food (I refuse to not eat a Thanksgiving meal).

It's interesting because as I get older (and DH has said this too), we realize how important it is to have family around. I had the BEST childhood. I was an only child, but my cousins, aunts and uncles, grandparents, etc. were all right there. As Hillary would say "it takes a village"
2.gif
and I had a village. We don't really have that there. Plus, something really bad happened a couple of days ago, and I think we're both on the same "let's get out of here asap" page. We live in a development, and right outside our entrance is a small, older strip center. A pawn shop opened up in this strip center about a year ago. Well, just the other day a man walked in to rob the place, shot the owner (missed), and the owner ended up killing him (shot him back). It was the night of the halloween party, and we drove by all the caution tape and police vehicles. That is not something that either of us had to deal with growing up. Sure, people say that kind of stuff happens everywhere. But I guess it just shook me up because I walk past that pawn shop everyday. I thought we lived in a safe neighborhood. But the muggings are increasing, the car break-ins (hence my GPS story from a while back) are increasing, etc.

I couldn't tell you what my favorite food is. I love it all. Right now I'd say multi-grain cheerios or watermelon.
9.gif
But I definitely love Italian food, cajun food, and seafood the most!
21.gif

Lucky I am so sorry about your grade.
7.gif
I wish I had your GPA! Mine is not quite that high, have a few more B''s here and there. It''ll work out.

I saw the hypnosis story on the Hill board and like you I was like woah this is a bit bonkers, but hey it is interesting and at least amusing, right?
31.gif
Ya never know about BO you betcha!
9.gif
2.gif
Hehe. But yes, I am also fascinated by it! I remember my Prof in psych 101 did an experiment with it to essentially prove anyone can be hypnotized with the suggestion they are going to be if they''re open to it. Does that make sense? It''s really interesting!

I also

C-mas! Mmm the food..yummy fudge, peanut butter balls, chocolate covered pretzels, etc.
30.gif
I am frustrated with both C-mas and Tgiving this year because my Dad has to work one or both and it''s the last Christmas w/ my fam before I get married. Sigh.
14.gif
I am sorry you don''t get to decorate for Christmas!
7.gif
What''s your favorite kind of decoration the tree or what? I am an only child, too! Yaaay only children unite!
36.gif
35.gif
I am sorry about you getting shaken up..that would shake me up, too. It''s really disturbing when all of the sudden the crime is on your doorstep if that makes sense. Sigh.
38.gif

Mmm italian food!!
30.gif

I actually have three half-siblings, so I guess I pulled a Cindy McCain.
2.gif

lol seriously though, that''s why I don''t get when people give her a hard time about saying she was an only child. I consider myself an only child! I was raised alone. My brother and two sisters were each raised by their respective mothers (my dad "got around" but that''s another story. lol).

I love Christmas trees!! We never do one here, though...I guess because we always go out of town.
OMG I l

ve fudge. Small towns have the best fudge shops. My mom makes it every year as well, and it is amazing. Ever notice how all the best food is served during holidays? I''m also a huge sucker for green bean casserole, which I never had until I moved to TX.
Do you have any fun traditions in your family for xmas? I mentioned earlier that we do yankee swap. We also do this weird thing with a pig for good luck. All of us take a little hammer and break it. I have NO idea what that''s about. I''ve never asked. I think I might look it up. lol.
34.gif

I know kimberlyh does an awesome "ugliest ornament" contest with her family. I so wanna adopt that tradition. And the ugliest christmas sweater tradition.
9.gif

Okay, well not 100% only child lol, but close! I love the sweaters and ornament idea! Hmm..yeah we eat. Haha. We also usually buy an ornament for each other as a gift, but not an ugly one..lol. Yankee swap sounds fun! I also

It has the color wheel and everything like the retro tree.

So did you see what I posted about the polls?
31.gif
There was tons of candy at the McCain office. No one was guarding it. I did some work though, so it wasn''t a handout.

I saw what you posted about the polls. How cool, huh! I don''t want to get my hopes up, but I''m glad that they are at least putting up a fight and it is really close. Okay, this is really bad...but since we don''t have kids and our dogs go insane whenever anyone knocks on our door or rings the doorbell, we went out last night! hehe! We went to dinner and a movie and just avoided the whole halloween thing. We celebrated last week anyway. But that means I didn''t get any candy.
7.gif

Then of course I went to Walmart and all of their Christmas decorations are already up. It actually makes me happy because that means I''m going to Maine soon. Yippee! Btw...I was looking to sell my wedding dress on indie bride for some extra christmas cash and saw another sarahlovesjs there. So I gave a shout out! If that''s not you someone is going to be confused the next time they log in. hahaha. If they ever do...the last time they logged in was in March. Anyway, I keep telling DH that we need to start buying gifts NOW because we ALWAYS wait until the last minute and then we end up broke.
We need to pay for the plane tickets, then all the gifts, THEN we need to board our dogs, THEN as soon as we get back the mortgage is due. Yikes.
32.gif

This time of year is a huge mess! At least if you buy one or two gifts a week it doesn''t seem like so much. Plus DH''s birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks and I am seriously at a loss as to what to get him.

I definitely DO think we''re going to get a tree this year. Even if it''s a little fake one! I''m just waiting for it to get a little colder outside, since it''s still pretty hot. We''ve gotten some cool days, but they go away as fast as they come. I just want to sleep with my windows open!

Lucky I can''t respond right now because I need a nap (went to a football game and managed to get overheated and sunburned in spite of wearing sunscreen!

), but I got your shout out! I had totally forgot I had that account, haha. Anyway, I will send ya a shout out back later!

So apparently it''s not cold in Virginia either. lol!

I still have my tan from Jamaica....that baby won''t go anywhere until about February.

We''re going to a football game in a couple of weeks, I wonder if I''ll get sunburned!!!

What team did you go see? College? Redskins?
As you DH grew up in Virginia and he is a HUGE Redskins fan. His older brother went to Virginia Tech and so their whole family is obsessed with Virginia tech as well. I mean, it''s crazy. His parents whole house is covered in the stuff. They have a Virginia tech bird feeder outside, mailbox, shirts, blankets, hats, coozies (how do you spell that?), cups, coolers, bumper stickers, window decals, license plates that say "V-tech" on them.....it''s really.....um......weird.

LOL!!!!!

Seriously, no offense to Vtech fans.

We''re actually going to get our new nephew a little vtech outfit for xmas. So that should be fun.

Haha it was college, yep. My Dad went to VaTech. I''m not so much of a VaTech fan..
27.gif
haha. I''m a rival fan, lol. They are definitely intense to say the least. My sunburn is fading, that''s the good news! But I do think I am going to have to cover it up with make-up or something. Poor FI''s is looking better today..it was half (only half) of his face due to the angle the sun was hitting us at.
23.gif
Poor thing..it''s really hard not to laugh about it!
19.gif
Lol as for redskins, FI is a skins fan..and I grew up with a Cowboys and a Steelers fan..so I was indoctrinated against the skins. But I actually don''t have an NFL team. I just kind of watch what''s on. I recommend you wear sunscreen for that game AND bring it! I wore it..it came off..and I forgot to bring more!
15.gif
Oh well, live and learn.

I''d love to go to Jamaica!
30.gif
How was it?

Lucky, I wanted to tell you I think you are a classy lady; I understand that you want everyone to win. I am the same way! I loved your wedding pictures; I wish I had a destination wedding.

Haven''t heard from you Lucky, how''s things?

Thanks Skippy, you''re so sweet.

Sarah, I did write you back on that.....um.....other thread. hehe.

I just had such a great day that I figured I''d update! I finally finished my monster of a research paper for school which has taken the biggest load off of my shoulders. Now I just have to get through finals and I am home free! Whoo hoo!
Also, as you all know, we''re going to Maine for Christmas this year. I cannot WAIT to play in the snow and see my family.
i think I told you guys that I''m going to try really hard to "sell" New England to DH while we''re there. He''s only been to Maine with me once before, but it was only for 3 days....FIVE years ago.
So my biggest obstacle has been trying to figure out good winter attractions. Of course there is the normal things like ice fishing, snowmobiling, skiing, etc...but I''m not sure if we''ll be able to do any of that. For one, I have no idea how to ice fish, so that''s out. We don''t own a snowmobile, and I''m not sure if we can rent one anyway....and while skiiing sounds fun, I''ve never done it. I know, I''m a bad Mainer.
But I DID find out that there is this place called Seacoast Fun Park that is an amusement park during the summer, and in the winter they cover everything with snow and turn it into a huge tubing park! Pretty sad that I had never heard of it and it is only 40 minutes from where I grew up.
Anyway, so I''m excited. I went and bought some sweaters and some boots, and we''ve been preparing for the trip for a while.

Side note: But have any of you who moved away from your hometown found that you''ve been forgetting things? I have forgotten the most basic things....people''s names, the shortcuts I used to take to my highschool....the back roads. I keep on thinking of places to take DH and then I realize I no longer remember how to get there.

It''s depressing.
But I just figured that I''d let you guys know I''m still alive. I''m so excited!!!!! Three weeks away exactly.

You get to home! Yay!!!! I don''t live very far away from my hometown, but when I''m down there I sometimes have to think REALLY hard about how to get somewhere. And sometimes I take the long route.
40.gif
Oops. I''m sure you''ll have a blast. So what are you getting your man for christmas?

Good luck on your finals!

Hi Lucky! I''m ecxited to see you have a thread of your own...woohoo! I have to leave work for an appt., but I''ll have to come back later to read all about you!

Hi Lucky!
35.gif
That is so exciting about going home for C-mas! How many weeks is it before you leave now, 2? Woohoo!

Did you do any decorating at home? I just got our tree and ornaments up (FI put the tree up and I did most of the ornaments) and put out a few things. But ahhh I need to clean so our decorations actually look pretty I guess.
26.gif
Anyway, just thought I would pop in and say hi and good luck on any other papers/finals you have!

Happy Birthday Lucky!!!!!

Hope it is fabulous; how was your day?

Hey luck! How was your holidays with your fam? Happy bday!

How are you doing Lucky? Figured I''d stop messing around in ATW and pop over and say hello!

Oh wow, I missed some birthday wishes!!!!!!

My birthday was okay. DH worked until about 7pm and then we just went to Red Lobster. lol!
My birthday present was that he FINALLY FINISHED the floors downstairs. In 2006 he started putting down wood floors and then stopped before he had finished any of the transitions (where the new floor met the tile) and the trim. For over TWO years we lived like that.

Christmas with my family in Maine was a BLAST!!! We only took a couple of photos, perhaps I can upload them later. There was only one small issue with my mother going psycho (lol). You can read about it in Joflier''s thread about in-laws in the Family section. Besides that though, it was SO great to see all of my relatives. We even took a day to go snow tubing. Maine just had a big snowstorm before we came, but it never snowed while we were there. Such a bummer. Funny too, since the only snow we saw was here in HOUSTON.

Andy and I realized after this trip that no matter where we go in the world, they are always having some sort of freak heat wave. When we went to Italy a couple of summers ago the average temp was like 96 degrees, even though it is normally supposed to be something like 76. Virginia is always having some weird heat wave too. So of course Maine was no different. It was 55 degrees practically every day. People were wearing short sleeve shirts! I was like, "Can''t I just be cold!!!!".

Sarah, I''m glad you''re back. Where have you been?!?!?!
