I''m trying to look at Regents, but in the process I''ve come across this Lucere. I''m wondering if this is really a good deal, because the more diamonds I see the less impressed I am with them compared to the Lucere I''ve looked at. I’m not sure how much better a Regent would be compared to something like this? Any thoughts?

Measurements: 6.51 x 6.46x 4.80 mm
Weight: 1.49
Proportions:
Depth: 74.3%
Table: 59%
Girdle: Medium to Slightly Thick
Cutlet: None
Finish:
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Very Good
Clarity Grade: VS1
Color Grade: I
Florescence: None

From my limited knowledge of the Lucere, I am wondering why the table is so small compared to the Depth, which seems very long at almost 75%. I don't think the proportions are all that impressive.

The Lucere I saw was cut fairly well, but it didn't sparkle as much, but had fire. It seemed like cut glass with precision cut facets, but didn't have that bright sparkle. I am told the Regent is really King on that sort of thing. I went for a Radiant, because I liked the cracked glass effect, instead of just the percisely cut glass look the Lucere seemed to have...

What is your budget? Is a good cut key? Is size key? What are you looking for in a stone? Fire, Scintillation?

Here are my thoughts!!!

6.51 x 6.46 (almost square) (BIG plus)

Table Area (42.05 square mm) ; for a 1.5 Carat, it should be over 41 (plus)

Girdle: Medium to Slightly Thick (plus)

Cutlet: None (plus)
Polish: Very Good (plus)
Symmetry: Very Good (plus)

Depth/Table (minus) ; It falls in the Average cut category

I would recommend you try maximising, the table area, within the cut range/type you want to be in. So if average cut is acceptable, then yes this may be a deal. Be careful though, in the future you may see diamonds with large surface areas but shallow depths and that may cause a fish eye effect, and in cases where you have a larger depth but smaller table, you may lose brilliance and the diamond may look smaller.

Also another effect I now like personally is the effect of Flr in a diamond. To my untrained eye, it makes the diamond look whiter. To top it off I would use this effect (flr) against a dealer while negotating prices on the diamond.

Maybe "average" for round but not "fancy" and this is a fancy.

What is the crown height on this Lucere?

I am looking for a quality cut. Lucere states that its depth ranges from 67.3-74.2, in order to achieve its level of brilliance. They also say that the table ranges is smaller at 54-63 and for the same reason. I would like something 1.5 or larger and would consider a radiant. Good Radiants seem hard to come by. I’ve considered some of the branded cuts because I want to get a certain level of fire and brilliance as well.

Rhino - I don't have anything further the GIA currently.

Jackaroe, consider my month long Radiant search (unsuccessful so far) a true testament that superb quality cut Radiants ARE hard to find. If you are seeking a square stone, it will be even harder. Some excellent Radiants are in great emerald-like lengths and are more rectangular.

Assuming from your choises so far, you want a square stone. Again, depending on your budget and strict standards of cut, there are several branded and generic cut stones to try. GoodOldGold has a lot of selection in the way of square stones, and Rhino can really help you out there. If you want a Lucere specifically, those proportions will be tough to find, but GOG can probably help track one down.

As for Radiants, I have done so much homework, I can recite all square radiants on market, from the top of my head. If you want, you can always contact me for any info I have compiled. Granted it's not exactly your specs, but it may help out. I wish you luck on the Lucere of your dreams, and if you do find it, PLEASE post pictures. This site needs more fancy cuts!!!

I'll be sure to post whatever fancy square I find! My hearts not set on Luceres, but just wanted to get some ideas. Thanks

In that case, do some searches on the following:

Hearts on Fire (dream)
Flanders
Old European
Cushion cut
Lucida
Regent
Asscher
Spring Cut (not normally square, but can be)
Tycoon cut (not normally square, but can be)

In addition to what I posted at the top of this thread I was able to get the sarin specs for this. Again let me know your thoughts about this Lucere stone?? I not sure how this stacks up against some of the other cuts out there.

Measurements: 6.51 x 6.46x 4.80 mm
Weight: 1.49
Proportions:
Depth: 74.3%
Table: 59%
Girdle: Medium to Slightly Thick
Cutlet: None
Finish:
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Very Good
Clarity Grade: VS1
Color Grade: I
Florescence: None

Sarin: (not sure how to read these, but this is what was on the back of the stones paper wrap at the store
Width: 6.49mm
Length: 6.52mm
L/W: 1.00
Total D.mm: 4.80 73.9
Table W.mm: 3.82 3.81 3.82 58.9
Crown A: 31.6 30.8 32.0
Crown H.mm: 0.80 0.78 0.81 12.3
Pavil.D.mm: 3.60 3.55 3.64 55.5

The measurements you saw are the crown height, and pavillion depth, as well as the crown angles as recorded. Of course, no stone is cut perfectly, that the angels are all the same, even on the SAME part of the stone. A Sarin report (or MegaScope) with a picture would be able to show you where these measurements apply to your stone. Hope that helps. This Lucere seems to be within ranges, but I assume you;ve seen it? What's your opinion of the ston'es fire, brilliance and scintillation, aka white little sparkles, colors, and black and white light contrasts?

I'll be looking at the stone latter this week. I'll comment on that after. I asked if they had a brillancescope report or an idealscope to get a look at the light performance, and he wasn't sure what I was talking about. Is there something else I should be asking??
