We've been looking at settings and I was about 99% getting a new setting - it was an 11mm emerald halo, but my stone would fit perfectly inside. Then I was wondering if I would miss the way my stone is cut - since it would be part of a "whole look" versus by itself as it is now.

Before I found this ring, I was looking for settings. But when I found this diamond, I loved it so much - the cut is exquisite and mesmerizing.. I bought the setting but only as a temporary thing. Then I felt funny changing it because I did love how it looked at most angles, but of course always admired detailed settings / deco / milligrain/ beadset accent stones, etc.

I saw the royal charm and was thinking about that. Then today I was thinking maybe I could make a custom setting, without giving my diamond to the manufacturer/designer. I would have it set when it's done I guess.

Do you think I should re-set it in a higher setting or more detailed setting as it would fit my finger size better? more coverage?
more light entering stone? (7mm stone, size 6.5 finger) And also to showcase the diamond better?? Any other ideas?? Wedding bands??
:wavey: P.s. please vote! :read:

Oooooh. That's such a PERSONAL decision. I *much* prefer lower settings .... but I like things understated & tough-like-tank. Your ring is beautiful to me -- but you're the one who matters!

your setting is soo gorgeous I wouldn't change it! maybe go to a store to try on different wedding bands?

ETA what about getting some bands to stack with it?

I think it is beautiful and unique...I wouldn't change it if it were mine.

I know! Right! Those tabby prongs ... those swoopy shoulders .... very antiquey yet clean & WHITE. Yummy. :lickout:

I love the setting... but I would go with something higher if it isn't wowing you.

I always thought I wanted a low setting but having just had one, and returning it, I can say now that they are just not for me. If I have a big beautiful stone, I want it to be out there a bit. The halo I had, while low, sleek, and appealing while not on the finger, just appear squatty and bleh when on. Have you tried other settings on? Does your lifestyle go better with a lower setting?

Mmmmm, I like it how it is, but could you just boost the center stone up a bit? Add some pave or milgrain or engraving around it?? :read:
Maybe a nice channel eternity band next to it?

agreed!

beautiful stone and ring! I voted "yes" because I prefer higher settings which tend to look a little more delicate. But I don't think you necessarily need more detail. Like others have said, it's a personal preference, and if you like low settings then this is perfect and is one of the most beautiful low settings I've seen!

Your ring is gorgeous as it is, I wouldn't change a thing!

I concur - leave it as is. It is beautiful 'just the way you are' - to paraphrase Mark Darcy and Bridget Jones! :cheeky:

Really - it looks perfect on your hand. ARe you trying on others that have a higher setting and having second thoughts? There will always be 'something else' out there, so maybe try a higher setting for a RHR?? I'd leave this one alone and fantasize about your NEXT purchase! :D

Thanks you guys. I appreciate all of your suggestions and opinions and for voting.

I tried on a few settings and have a pic of one but I have to shrink it somehow, it is too big of a file (I tried, but it wouldn't accept it).

I also like the royal charm setting 4 prong but not sure about the top view of that one either. I always liked halos, but the one I was going to get was 11mm long and there wasn't much room for a wedding band, unless it was a thin one (2.5mm). Then I didn't want to lose the cut of this ring, because in a halo (the one i was looking at) it was a whole look and the center stone blended in w/ the rest of the ring.
This cut is unique and I like admiring the stone itself, yet it is very simple and petite for my finger.
Then I was thinking I can buy the setting (halo) and get a diamond for it next year; but then when will I wear the rings? Which one would I end up wearing? Then neither one is "special" anymore in a way, you know? BUT I do love so many styles of engagement rings.

I'll try to post a pic of an enhancer I own and one I was looking at (but not interested in) and the other setting that was pretty and lifted up the stone. It was a lucida style setting, but with diamonds on the shank. (have to shrink pics)

Anyway, keep any ideas coming! I appreciate it! :wavey:

i love that setting and would definitely keep it but, as other have said, this is a personal preference. go with what you makes you swoon :-)

I would not do it, your setting is beautiful!

I like the setting also, but if you want to change it, please post some pictures of other settings you like so we can have an idea of what your tastes are. I don't know what the royal charm setting looks like.

Thanks, I'll find some, but basically vintage looking with lots of details.....maybe beefier setting...not so thin?

My first e-ring was set very high, an RB in a 4-prong setting. The prongs weren't exactly delicate, they were the kind of squared-off prongs that widen toward the base (your typical mall setting). The ring was also a tiny bit loose once it got over my knuckles.

I knocked it around. A lot.

I actually have a small scar on my ring finger from all the times that I knocked that setting and it tipped back toward my hand and gouged at my finger.

IMO, higher settings look impressive, but are not very practical. I think your setting is beautiful. Maybe play with different bands?

I agree that it is a personal preference. It depends on lifestyle, finger type (higher/top heavy settings tend to have some movement north to south on a hand with skinnier fingers with larger knuckles). Some totally rock the higher styles. There are many beautiful low styles as well. I am interested in seeing your ideas too. Love your stone by the way! (and the setting is beautiful too  )

That's the other thing, I dont' the "round" stones! Any pic I ever cut out has been an emerald, radiant or cushion shape (rectnglr shape).....so I was thinking of setting it in a rectnglr halo, but that might take away from the center stone. Single stone settgs are nice and detailed..maybe a custom setting?

Your ring is beautiful. I wouldn't change it at all.

wow thanks!! I saw a few I like, but then it won't be original..

Add me to the others who love your ring as is and wouldn't change it. It's gorgeous just the way it is!

:wavey: :wavey: :wavey: Hi Iluvdiamonds2... what did you decide to do? Did you change your setting?

beautiful ring

No, I'm still waiting til I can go looking. I am leaning towards not doing it and just buying a new diamond altogether........ :cheeky:
Simply because I like the fact that the entire ring is original. After u put it in a new setting, it's not the same, maybe. u know?
How many e-rings do most PS's have?

I just read my Lab report and my diamond is a 7.21mm x 7.19 (from my memory the other evening).
ANyway here I am this much later and still going to look at settings BUT if I don't find anything amazing, I'm going for a huge chunky cushion D color stone. :naughty: :loopy: :loopy: :loopy:

I do think it is special since it is the original setting. So I vote for a second diamond ring instead of resetting this one! :appl:

oh no! that ring is so unique as is and probably super comfortable to wear because it's so low set. My bella halo ring is REALLY high. It's why I'm trying to sell it and get something more low set and comfortable for daily wear.

Thanks gals! I think i will get a new stone probably - even though I LOVE this stone - it is so unique and pretty. Unless I find a setting this holiday season!! I will keep u posted!!!
