Several years ago, someone posted a question about this brand/manufacture of diamond and little was known. So now they''re being sold in b&m and if anyone still cares

, I did ''compare and contrast''. Joint venture between MIT and....ok, it sounded like ''origami'', but in short, a laser/computer method of cutting and evaluating the stone. They are drop-dead spectacular. Not enhanced, just perfectly faceted - so perfect, the stones I saw were all g-h color, SI 1 and 2, yet ''fired up'' like vvs1, e. All rb. GIA-graded. The pieces I saw were three-stone rings, and heart and circle pendants made up of .10 to .30. No flaws, leakage, deadspots, feathering et al visible. Just incredible. And the prices were lower than you''d pay with a graded e, vs1. Truly, the fire is out of this world.
So, why not?

I''ve seen them too! ... and they did look sparkly and bright.

Wondering ... "where''s the catch" ....

The catch is in that it is not a round brilliant diamond. There are 16 extra facets in the pavilion.

In jewelry-store lighting, there is no noticeable loss in performance, because of the extra facets. With extra light being pumped into the diamond, it will look spectacular.

The catch is when you take it into a less strong lighting environment. The extra facets create more and smaller virtual facets. Smaller virtual facets means smaller scintillation events, so less chance of you observing fire coming out of the stone.

And in lower lighting, your sparkles being smaller will not be a benefit.

Live long,

Thanks, Paul ... what you say makes sense. However, when I saw these diamonds (a 5 stone ring and a pendant) at a mom-&-pop B&M, I was blinded

by the sparkle and shine. The first thing I instinctively did is look up to see what kind of ultra-strong, search-lighty fixtures they had. I was surprised to see that they had NO jewelry-type lighting ... just ordinary, work-shop-type fluorescents in the ceiling.

I have to admit, although the sparkle was great, the stones did look a bit ''flat'' and 2-dimensional to me -- not sure if what I''m saying makes sense.
