I haven''t posted about this yet...but we have had a difficult time finding bridesmaid dresses. I only have two s, known them since kindergarten (they are actually sisters). Well, over time N has become extremely Catholic, extremely conservative. Turns out she doesn''t want anything low cut (understandable, but it seems like what my grandma wears might be low cut to her now!), and would like a little sleeve or jacket. She doesn''t want to show her shoulders. Well, as anyone who looks at BM dresses knows, that is really difficult to do. I want them to wear deep wine/burgundy/deep red, and have looked in stores and online for an off the rack dress, but those colors just aren''t out right now. And every time I went and tried dresses on (they are similiar in build to me), as they are not in GA with me, 99% of what I found was atrocious on. So, my wonderful Mom suggested that she make the dresses. She is a wonderful seamstress, actually made one of my prom dresses, and has helped me out with costumes on shows before, too. So, off I went to Jo-Anne''s, and selected seven patterns. I sent them off in an email, and it turns out they like two of the Vintage Vogue ones best.

I tried to pick dresses with sleeve options (or that would look good with a little jacket), so if N wants sleeves and S doesn''t, no problem. I also told them if they wanted different dresses, thats fine, too. I would just be using the same fabric for both dresses. Now, if we use these, I will probably use a silk dupioni or a brocade. If we want them full skirted like shown, then we will have to do small crinolines. Probably not too full, or their dresses will be bigger then mine!
We plan on having me measure the s, Mom will do a muslin (probably just the top) and I will fit them, then the final dress in the perfect fabric. Viola, a dress custom made for each of my s! Mom did say she wished she could help more, but being in MI, its hard...hope she''s happy with what she got herself into!
